shin-etsu grease
Is shin-etsu grease just for the convertible top seals? or can you use it for any other place there is rubber (like door jam seals, etc.)
Also, where' the cheapest place to get it?

I use it on all the weatherstrips. top, door jams, trunk, anywhere there is rubber it is a good thing for it. Only thing, it will get the toughest layer of grease on your windows you will ever see. I scrub and scrub, and it still doesn't come off easily.
The cheapest place to get it I have found is H and A, a board sponser.

when my car was getting serviced, i asked the dealer to put some on the top seals- they told me that they dont do that, and i should just go to parts and get some!!!
so i went to parts and the parts guy told me that no one should pay $20 for a tube of grease- he promptly went out to the service guy and told him to have the stuff applied at no charge- and they did...
i will go back to that dealer just for the service that i got from that parts guy-
there are still some service folks alive at the dealers!

The silicone spray works...but not as well. The spray only lasts so long the shin-etsu is the best stuff out there.......A ten dollar tube will last you probably ten years a little goes a long way. Applied mine in october to my hard top seals.....its almost feb....and not a single squek to be had. I used maybe 3/4" of an inch of the shin etsu for all the hardtop seals.....the stuff is Really nice....well worth the price ...buy it from H&A.........oh....by the way...silicone spray can smell like tunnel bunny ass.....shin etsu has almost no odor

But silicone spray is much easier if you're ever lazy one day. Twice a year does it.
Oh and guys, don't forget that GM sells their "Silicone Emulsion" with it's handy dandy shoe polish applicator for much less money and it works just the same.
Yes, silicone spray doesn't last as long but I gave that as a hint when you're in a "pinch". You may need to put it on twice as frequently but then, the stuff costs so much less and you can use it for so many other things PLUS, it's not nearly as "greasey" on those windows.
