Thumbs up Shipping a differential

Sending my diff out to hardtopguy next week. He gave me some ideas about how to property make a decent fixture to bolt it into (before placing in a shipping box/container), but didn't quite follow.

Looking for suggestion (pics even better) on how you guys have shipped your diff. I assume the gear oil should be removed, correct?

thanks,
Mark

Hardtop guy (Jeff) sent me my diff in a 1/2 inch constructed plywood box just long and wide enough to hold the diff. The box had 1x1's in the two bottom ends to allow the sides to be screwed together. The lid was also plywood and held in place with inch and a half wood screws. Drain your differential COMPLETELY before shipping! The box was finished with two wooden lifting handles screwed to each end. Easy job to do if you have a drill and circular saw!

So, the diff was not suspended within the box in any way, correct?

i recieved and shipped some motorcycle engines and one car engine. they seem to put them on a open pallet and wrap it in a lot of shrinkwrap. i protect critical parts. the shrink wrap is very strong after several applications.

the carierr, usally some freight company, both parites have the weigh bill number and follow the tracking very close. the shipping company will not load/unload so depending on the weight have arrangements.

shipping cost relates to both size and weight, i would get insurance if possible.

i have had good luck so far, no damage.
