Shoping for new car. Long
Why does everyone have to question the guy's credibility and dismiss his post? He's just offering an interesting and relatively well-written comparison between some high-end performance vehicles. We're all car enthusiasts; I respect anyone who takes the time to try to inform other automobile lovers. It's a testament to the S2000's performance that it can even be mentioned in the same sentence as Porsches and Aston Martins.

I don't understand how anyone could drive the DB9 and TT back to back and buy the Brit car -- but we all have different requirements.
I would give the TT the edge an a tight road course and the DB9 the edge on a more open one.
Comparing the TT and DB9 together and you will find the DB9's a better value. It is very amazing when you can ride in this kind of luxury and be this close to some of the best performance cars in the world.
Drive both and you won't need to ask that question. TT is a great car, but the DB9 is very close in performance. The DB9 would probably take a stock TT above 30, the TT would have it at the line.
They are not close in terms of accleration (or any performance number for that matter). Stock 996 TT's dip into the high 11's on occassion, you are lucky to get a high 12 from the DB9.

you baller~! i feel sorry for you having to make such a hard decision
. i wish i was in your shoes. For that price range how bout the Ford GT and the new F430 thats gonna come out. both would kick the crap out of x50 and the DB9. but as some one mentioned realier... what ever floats your boat.
btw. nice write up!

i tried to get a ford gt but everyone wants a minimum of 300g's. that mark up does not appeal to me.
the f430 is sold out. if you happen to get one you will more than likely pay 250 for it.
gt2 or a tt with x50 package would be the best performance if he wants to stay stock. they would also get lots better with mods.
i doubt the astin has any aftermarket parts for it. so his wife would be happy he got the db9(due to no mods).
get the tt and enjoy the drive

DB9 is 3800 lbs and the TT 3500. The biggest difference is the the wheel base, 92 compared to 107. The S2000 is 96. The surprise is that the polar moment and feel of the DB9 and the S2000 are very much alike. Any one who has driven a DB9 through the turns would know this. Rotation is a little slower, but close.
Yes the TT is faster from 0 to 60 and in the 1/4 mile, but most of this speed advantage comes at the launch.
I am more interested in acceleration from a given speed to the next. In this area the DB9 is close. Also the DB9 is not about just speed. Like some have said, it is a different car. This car is close to a CLK in comfort, less the back seat, but close to the Porsche in the turns. I thought about a SL55 but had a really bad experience with my CLK 55.
I plan to use the car for 2+ hour drives to a destination. It may never see a track. It won't see 100 very often, what a shame. I have considered all the other cars mentioned and driven many, however, the noise level is very often as high as the S2000 or greater.

The turbo is closer to 3300 pounds, The DB closer to 3900 pounds. The speed advantage the turbo has over the DB is not just at launch, it is from any speed to any other. I don't see how the cars compare, one is a sports GT the other a luxury GT. About all they have in common is that both are expensive.
If a cruiser is what you want, the DB9 is the way to go. Quiet, soft.
For what it's worth the DB9 wheelbase is 108, not 107.
