Default Shopping for S2000

I’m considering getting a 2005 S2000. What should I look at and what questions should I ask? Are there year-specific idiosyncrasies of which I should be aware? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Moose

05 is a good year to buy in terms of dodging a lot of the issues that other years have. Also, no DBW which I'm not a fan of. But I may just be biased with my 05 berlina black

Detailed Model year differences. Go thru the features and make a priority list which will create a short list -- often a very short list -- of cars to consider. Mine was headed by 2006 or later to specifically get DBW which instantly eliminated 80% of the cars imported from my consideration. Color was not on my list as condition was paramount but it you want, for example, white you've eliminated 93% of those imported (all model years) and eliminated 98% if you also want DBW -- only 1317 white DBW cars imported in that configuration.

The DBW cars (2006 and later) have traction control and stability assist both valuable features, and are tunable without the need to fit an aftermarket ECU. The "nannies" can be turned off with a button the dash. Heck even the brakes are DBW in F1 cars -- all these drivers do mechanically is steer.

We're all biased to what we already have. Love my Silverstone DBW (and tuned) 2006. You'll love whatever you get.

100% agree that DBW is a huge benefit for the ability to easily and cheaply put a tune on it. Due to the ability to change the VTEC crossover point, these cars can benefit hugely from a tune.

My DBW VTEC is 3600rpm at WOT. Car will cruise at 80mph on the low power/economy cam and switch just by depressing the gas pedal. Peak power remains the same. Power just comes on sooner if wanted.
