Default Should I buy this 2001, S2000?

Hi. Long story short...I won a S2000 on ebay. I got it for 18,700. It's a 2001, black, 33k miles and looks to be in great shape. My friend drove it today and said it was in great shape. I live 3 hours away, so I didn't have time to drive it. Well, just to be safe I ran a car report on it...and it was in an accident. A front end collision with a cement barricade. Then it was put to auction, like 5-6 times. It doesn't look like anyone new bought it...but I'm not sure if I should bother with it now. I want to find out more info on the crash. Here's the link to the ebay auction, and also the report.

I wouldn't worry too much, looks pretty clean. Might have been a low-speed impact. If you're concerned, have it checked by a mechanic you trust, looking for any damage to the frame, suspension, engine bay. As long as the car doesn't carry a salvage title, you're likely in good shape.

The fact that it failed at auction probably just means the owner was asking too much.

It's a little late to be asking if you should buy it considering that you already agreed to do so. You entered in to a legal contract to purchase the car when you placed your bid. If you value your honor, also consider that you gave the owner your "word" when you placed the bid. He has agreed to sell it at the price that you bid for it. If he decided to sell it to someone else to make some more money, he would be breaking his end of the agreement. I don't think that you would like that. Did you email the owner and ask if it had been damaged before you placed your bid? It's your responsibility to ask all relevant questions and it's his responsibility to tell you the truth. It looks like a real nice car to me (and your friend). I think that you got a good deal. Go throw down your money and don't look back!

I asked the guy if it had been in an accident and he said no. Obviously it has...but maybe he just didn't know.

i would consider the failure to disclose prior damage pretty significant.

did you ask the seller the question about accident history before or after you placed the bid?

I ran a Carfax report for you. PM me your email, and I will forward it to you.

The car had one owner (in Miami) and did have an accident, as you described. The Carfax report put it as severe damage. I would not buy a car with moderate-to-severe damage, but that's just me.

You can always get out of an ebay contract, if necessary. I would say that this is necessary. I wouldn't worry too much about "negative" feedback on your ebay account because I, personally, would rather have that than be stuck with a car that has been damaged, and the damage could cause problems to the driving condition of the vehicle. Just my thoughts. Let me know if you want the Carfax report.

I AGREE. As long as the high bidder made the inquiry BEFORE he placed the bid.
