Default Should I Buy From Ebay?

hi, i'm new to the forums and i've recently been looking at purchasing a used s2000, preferably years 00-02 because that's all my budget will permit me. I was wondering if anyone here has bought their s2000 off ebay or if they've bought any vehicle off there, and i just wanted to know if you had any good/bad events while buying off there and the pros/cons of buying cars from ebay. I would also like to know if it's safe to purchase from ebay or if it's just better off going to the dealership.

Ebay car sales run from incredible deals to scams. IMO itis better to find a car listed in the local or near local vicinity. I would never buy a sports car without a dealer evaluation of the condition.

If you find a car on the internet you can contact a dealer or independant shop in the seller's local and pay for an eval with your credit card.

A car that sounds like a great deal is worth a flight to go look at it. You can fly almost anywherre for $99 - its good insurance when plunking down lots of bucks for a car.

Good luck on your search for the car you want. The best advice I can give is to be patient! There are a lot of good cars out there, you just need to wait for the right one.

I bought a 97 528i, 99 CLK430, 00 M5, 00 S500, and 02 C4S from eBay. The only vehicle I got screwed on was the first one because I purchased it from a Independent Dealership, had the car inspected by a Independent Company, and it was my first purchase.

The best thing to do is find a privaty party selling it on Ebay, no Lease return or cars from auctions, have it inspected by an actual Authorized Dealership, and if you're still concern fly out and look at it. I never saw any of the vehicles I bought until the transport company delivered them.

Good LUCK!

One of my interns just got scammed on EBAY by a "normal" guy selling a 2002 Silverado.

He drove like 400 miles to pick the truck up in Minn. After giving the guy a check (which was cashed 5 min later), he got about 100 miles on return trip and realized the truck had been crashed bad. Repairs "looked" good but mechanically it was toast.

I kept telling him it sounded too good.

Cops got involved and he got his money back.

I'm curious to know what process you followed to have the car inspected.

I don't think I would ever. Way to much risk. Unless you see the car in person and drive it then I'd pass. Some people are less risk taking though but for a car purchase I'm very risky and picky!
