Default Should I buy an S2K?

I currently own a 97 Honda Prelude SH and it has been a wonderful fun car. But lately I have been thinking about maybe selling it and get a newer car. I have looked at other cars such as Lancer Evo, WRX, STi, 350Z, TL Type-S, CL Type-S, RSX, Type-S and IS300. But none of those cars seem to be as reliable mechanically as S2K would be. JD Power and associates also gave S2K higher overall rating than all those other cars. I have looked at a few 2002 S2Ks around my area and they are around $24,000 with about 24,000 miles. That seems like a decent deal to me and I will actually be checking and test driving one this weekend. But I was wondering if any S2K owners out there that have driven a 5th gen Preludes before, can tell me whether it is worth the money for me to upgrade from a Prelude SH to a S2K?

You're asking this question in an S2000 forum. What do you think will be the predominant answer?

There are plenty of faster cars, but imo, S2000 is absolutely one of the funnest ever! Not the most practical but the funnest.

I've also had a Prelude SH before and it was great. But the S is a completely different car; so much more fun and sporty. My Prelude was more reliable than my S.

All I can say is: go test-drive and decide for yourself.

I've owned an '88 Prelude Si, '96 Integra GS-R, and an '04 Civic EX Coupe. The Prelude was a GREAT beater, and for me handled a bit better than the Integra. You can notice how much that .2L difference makes in torque vs. the Integra. Stereo sounded good too. The Integra was fun to MOD. The Civic, well - it served its purpose for the 4 months that I owned it. Hated the power (or lack thereof) output.

I've had the S2000 since the end of may and it's been awesome. But, I probably wouldn't have done it if I didn't have the 4Runner. While the S2000 is great and loads of fun to zip around in, it won't be much help on those trips to Home Depot or when carrying a 3rd wheel like my brother or one of my wife's friends.

So - give it alot of thought, are you going to need a back seat, trunk space, do you live in an area where you'd be better off with front wheel drive during the winter, etc...

Good luck!

If you have doubts about the S2K, which means this car is not for you.

Get the 350Z.

A lot of 350Z owners used to have Preludes.

Heh,

Seriously, Go to the dealer. Stare at the car in the showroom. Drive it. Then come back here and show pictures
