Should I suck it up and get it?
Hello all,
I'm not asking you the"Is the S2000 right for me?", question. I know that I'm getting an S2000 for sure, but I'm wondering if I'll be breaking my back to pay for it.
I make mid $50's and spend about $1000/month on living (rent, util, groceries..etc). Do you think an S2000 would be lavish considering my income level. I'm also worried about my insurance since I have 1 claim for $500 in the past year for rear-ending.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I don't think anybody else can tell you what you want to know, only you know whether or not you can afford it.
My advice would be, if you have this nagging feeling that you are going to have a tough time paying for it, then I would hold off, because you probably can't afford it at this time. I don't think it's a good idea to strap yourself financially for something that is basically a toy.
I just got my S yesterday, and only after I am finally free of credit card debt, and I have a chunk of money in the bank. So now I am able to own the S guilt free, without having to worry from week to week about whether or not I can pay my bills. I had to put up with an Accord LX for 5 years to be in the position to get the S, and the wait was worth it.
Just my .02.

asaj: I need sit down and calculate my budget. I know that I can afford it but I'm nervous that I might feel guilty. Like you said I need to think some more.
jankemi: Good point!
S2020: I'm thinking about a used 02 or 03 with under 10K miles
Smokee: I have a deeded (fenced) parking spot that is included in the association fee (not a garage though).

Go used, I bought a slightly used MY00 last year (for a lot more than they are selling for right now unfortunately) and I make significantly less than you with about the same expenses. I just put quite a bit down on the car so the payments are not much at all. Its really a decision only you can make but I'd definitely look into the used option if the new ones are too $$$$. Good luck
I'd wait - I think a new S2000 would be a bit extravagant where you are currently. A lightly used makes a lot more sense, I think.
I absolutely wouldn't if you don't have at least the full value of the car in retirement savings & assets though - that's my personal minimum litmus test; I want to be sure that I have an overall positive net worth at all times.
