Side strake hardware
Hello,
I purchased a pair of strakes from a fellow member and was in the process of installing it when I noticed that I would need additional parts. upon talking to the Honda dealer locally I found out the the small parts (i.e. butyl o rings, plugs and gromets) were only part of a set.
Where would I go about getting this stuff individually. And no, Home Depot does not carry these items.
Thanks

The fastener that goes into the hole on the underside can be replaced by a common drywall picture hanger. These are the things that when you put it into the hole and begin turning the screw, the sides of the cylinder squeeze out and hold the fastener from behind the (in your case) the car's sheet metal.
However, the one that goes into the hole on the side of the car is the tough one. It is a very unique kind of fastener that comes in two parts. The first part gets installed in the hole and second part gets "hung" onto the backside of the strake. You then line up the strake so the two parts line up and you push to "snap" the one part into the other. This serves to both hold the strake up against the car and it also spreads the bit in the hole so it doesn't pull back out.
Without this part, you are left with few options. One of which is to build up layers of double sided autotrim tape on the back side of the strake so that when you press it onto the side of the car, it sticks flush. Make sure you clean off the areas to be stuck to really well with alcohol.
These are the only pieces of hardware that are not easily salvageable when the strakes are removed. The rest should come with the strakes.

Could the strakes eventually work their way off over time or is the bond pretty tough?

This is what I used for the anchor under the car:
See those little sharp, pointy things just under the screw head? I squished those flush so they didn't cut into the car.
The side skirts are essentialy ruined after installing the side strakes due to the drilling a hole in them. The factory gromets or push pins suck ass. If you replace them with the dry wall screws or whatever.....I recommend after you get them in place to put a small bead of super glue on the rubber gasket on the edge of the strake. Once the glue touches the side skirt it will create an airtight seal and it won't come off. Trust me it works........
