Default Simple and probably over discussed question..

Ok, first off, I apologize, I know this is a topic that likely has been beaten to death... I know that much, but the search has been down for a couple days and my attempts to find the information while googleing site:s2ki.com/forums haven't worked as i expected.

In short, I'm looking for a lightweight exhaust for Autocross. The other side is that this is the car I will likely semi-DD in the summer (the wrx feels like a boat now) and I don't want to draw too much attention around as i'm an introvert with people I don't know. But at Autocross I know people and I'm fine with something loud. Also, I'd prefer to have something with a smaller rather than larger tip.

So i've been looking at a few exhausts, and I was wondering, given my requirements, which one you would suggest.

t1r 63mm V2 - Not sure if you can still buy this or not.
T1R EM 70R - Not sure if you can still buy this or not.
Apexi GT
Apexi N1 - Not sure if you can still buy this or not.

Again, my apologies, I'm sure this has been discussed, and I've read the exhaust thread, and that is what got me this far.

-Chip

well the mugen is full titanium. so its light, but its not loud. probably the quietest exhaust on the market. the tips are not large though which is something you mentioned. unless you want loud, look into the mugen

i thought the mugen was SS, maybe Ti cans, but SS at least the rest of it?

how often do you auto-x? if it's not very often, an option that is very cheap in money but takes some work every time you use it is to just do a shorty and swap with the factory exhaust. you can pick up either parts from a muffler shop to make it or just get a used stock exhaust, then cut it off right where the pipe splits so you have just a little more than an open cat. should be well under $200 when all is said and done. captain pants did this first and was very happy with it. then you can use the loud "shorty" for auto-x, then hang the factory exhuast again when you get home.

good luck though. i don't know enough about the exhausts you suggested to help.

is your goal just to shed weight without tons of noise? if so, just about any single with a silencer for the street would probably be a good route.

Mugen exhaust is NOT full Ti. It's SS + Ti, and still lighter than OEM, but can't hold a candle in terms of lightness to a full Ti system.

How does an exhaust change affect your auto-x class? Will you be reclassed if you modify the car?

I'm assuming he's running B-stock, so anything after the catalytic converter is fair game.

Yes... BS it is.

Wow, the Mugen is a bit expensive... I'll see if I can find one used or something.. With the V710's, gendron bar, trailer, hitch, wheels i've already bought this week I was hoping to save a few bucks in this area...

My autocross weekends are pretty much 2x/mo during the summer, so i'd prefer not to have to make changes before an event. If i were still single, I'd be all for it, but the kids take too much time for me to spend that extra time with any consistency, I'd end up forgetting/getting lazy and not putting the swap on.

In terms of "bang for the buck" the DIY flange between the OEM mid-pipe and the Y split is unbeatable. Drive to the track with OEM quietness, drop the mufflers, race with just the mid-pipe.

Chip - Search for my username. I asked this question about when I was looking for A-stock options...

I sent you a detailed email, but cheap to expensive and given some of your requirements, I will say...

1) Custom Magnaflow single muffler after cutting the muffler section off. This is irreversible unless you get someone eles's stock system and use it as a sacrifical lamb or do a v-band or weld it back up when you sell it etc.. ($350 or so with mandrel bends, muffler, welding, hangars etc). You can bbq paint it black to almost look stock...

2) Spoon N1 - Single, 60mm piping, small muffler, lightweight and loud only when nailing it. $800-1000

3) J's Racing 60 RS - Full Ti. Mad Tiiite JDM y0! $1400 - $1600, I believe.

All 3 will work for B-Stock. Anyways, check your email.

Also, Apexi N1 and Gt-Spec will also work, but its a big can. Same for megan racing with its extreme "doriftu" angled exhaust

Finally comes down to budget too.

But, I would highly suggest spoon N1. Hard to find them used tho I looked forever and never could find one!
