I think when down shifting you can skip gears" the synchs are not effected.

Of course the syncros are affected on downshifts, even more so than upshifts. That's why non synchronized transmissions have to be double clutched on the downshift.

As someone mentioned, just run the shifter through the in-between gears with the clutch in, whether you are upshifting or downshifting. I do a throttle blip for every gear I run through to help myself keep track of what I'm doing when downshifting for a corner.

I fail to see how this is an issue if you double clutch or rev match your downshifts, I will come out of 6th and while braking shift into 3rd or 2nd (heel toe). Again I am matching revs and it slides into gear butter smooth. The only notchiness I have on the trans is upshifting to 3rd when the transmission is cold.

Seems to be votes for both sides on this one...How much does it cost to replace or fix a syncro problem?

im gonna say if you dont do the labor then thats already about $600 bucks on labor. and if your replacing synchros id replace all of them since the tranny is already down. id prolly do the clutch and flywheel too.

You can skip gears if you wait for the shaft to slow down once you shift out of gear and double clutch to rev match the gear to want to enter. Just pushing in the clutch doesn't affect the transmission. The differential is still turning the gears (and flywheel) until you move the shifter to neutral. They just aren't connected to the engine.

Just go through each gear with the clutch in and you're fine, but don't skip straight from one gear to another non consecutive one on the way up.

Just double clutch and your synchros will not take abuse when skip shifting.

Just put it in 4th gear with the clutch disengaged and then go to fifth. Problem solved and no worries.

There is no need to double clutch downshifts on any car with syncros, just rev match. The entire purpose of a syncro is so that you don't have to double clutch (regarding usability anyways).
