I bought my spa yellow S2000 MSRP at end of April from Nelson Honda, down in So. Ca.

When I pick up my car, they had a white s2000 and willing to sell it at MSRP.

Yeah, they have dropped significantly since they first came out.

I don't believe that is true. The first time the car will be registered is in CA so it is just like buying it in state. I think there are a number of CA owners that bought out of state that can describe the procedure.

My car came from Kendall Motors in Eugene Oregon.

I actually got it through an auto broker in Chico, as did at least one other list member that I met on one of the Bay Area hookey day drives.

The procedure for registering it is to bring proof that it was built to meet California emissions and to bring along results of a recent smog test. If it has the sticker under the hood indicating that it meets California emission requirements there are no added fees and no additional hassles to register the car. If it does not meet the California emission requirements, you must have 7500 miles on the odometer.

Don't try buying a new one out of state that does not meet the California emission requirements.

I'm willing to talk more by e-mail about this if necessary.

I got mine through Proiceline.com for MSRP. I had to go to San Diego but it was a fun trip. They only charge you $50 if they find your car at the price you specify. Their West Coast rep (Ray) is excellent and works very hard to get you your car. If they can't find a suitable deal you pay nothing.
Locally I know San Leandro sold a car to a fellow Board Poster for MSRP. I also got a pretty good offer at Roseville Honda. I am quite sure all S2000's imported carry both a Federal and California Smog Certification so it is no hassle to bring in a new one from out of state. If you can wait until the middle of winter I am sure you could get a 2002 from Minnesota or Ohio or somewhere cold for well below list. Even with the $1500 shipping you would save money.

But try Priceline...it really worked well for me.

I second the suggestion by Bob Moss - I bought my S2000 through priceline.com as well and obtained it for MSRP. It was the easiest car purchase I've ever made. As Bob said, the West Coast Rep does an excellent job. I flew down to So. Ca. to pick mine up and had a great drive back.

Definitely worth looking into...

You can get a S2000 at MSRP at dealers in more remote areas.
I got good quotes from Cathedral City, CA and Bakersfield, CA. You could always go for a weekend trip and pick it up.

This was just covered on the BayArea board, check it out. There are a few dealers in the bayarea that are selling at MSRP, I just bought mine here at MSRP. E-mail me for details.
