I took my third and final S2k test drive today, just before the snow returned. OK, I'm convienced this has got to be the best damn sportscar for the money on the road. I've logged about 50 miles total in three different S2k's. One of my concerns was the tight seat bolsters, as I have arthritis problems that knocked me out of vintage racing.
Today's test car had 27 miles on it when I picked it up. For some reasons the seat bolsters on this car felt OK; made me wonder if Honda changed something or if I just got lucky? Hopefully, things will continue to go my way. The car had the colors I'm looking for.

Now for the hard part, the dealer's asking $2k over; but I already know the last one sold went out for $1k over sticker. Personally, I look at dealer's doing this as rappist, just taking advantage of the situation and I refused to give in - even thought it may hurt (for a while). I know there's decent dealers out there. I told the dealer I want the car but I'm NOT willing to pay any extra. They said they will let me know in the morning. Greed vs. pride (and common sense). Wish me luck. But, either way I'll have one sooner or later.

Good Luck!

The seats have not changed, so it sounds like you've found the roadster you've been waiting for.

Good luck! I also refused to give in to the dealers greed after having 2 deposits down for over a year......then I caved and paid $1.5K over. No regrets though. Awesome car!!

It's 2:30pm the next day and the dealership hasn't called. Apparently they don't want to sell the car. I'd think $3.5k profit for a few minutes work would be enough but I quess not. So now the search begins. I did see the S2k car cover at a friend's house during our lunch hour... looks good.

dlq04, I'm in the same situation you are about the price of the car.

I too have test driven 3 different cars in the last three months. Each car felt perfect. The best test drive was in Ft. Lauderdale Florida along A1A.

I have shopped a couple of local dealers they refuse to come off of their price, $35K is the better of the prices I've seen so far.

I've got a few salesmen from dealerships other than Honda that are contacting their sister Honda dealerships to see about getting me an S2k for MSRP (or maybe slightly less).

I agree that $3500+ is a huge amount for a Honda dealer to make on a car. They would have to sell 3-5 times as many Accords or Civcs to make that kind of profit.

Maybe I'll get mine before the S2k meet in Asheville (at least that's the plan) [:^).

I can sleep better tonight. The local dealer didn't respond (I figured he was holding the line or stalling) so I rechecked S2ki for the nearest one dealing and found a Michigan dealer (the first) had join the list of those willing to sell at MSRP. I contacted them but they didn't have the silver-red/black combo I was looking for.

I double checked S2ki again and found another Michigan dealer listed under the Rant/Rave section. Since it listed as a Rave I called them, got a salesman who actually owned a S2k, he told me the car I was looking for came in yesterday, was still wrapped in plastic in back, and was available for MSRP. I put down $500 and will work out the financing Friday...may have it by this weekend.

And quess who just sent me an e-mail willing to sell me a car a MSRP - the one I test drove yesterday and who wanted $2k over yesterday. So keep the faith and don't give into the greedy ones! With car loan interest rates in 9% range, etc. and few of us sitting around with the full $35k to plunk down, I think we can put an end to the rape. California dealers seem to be the worst, and as long people appear willing, they'll keep raping them.

Good luck to all of those still trying to find a honest dealer.

Congratulations! I know you are going to love the car. I think there are still good deals to be had in the cold climates. Good job sticking to your guns to get the price you wanted. Not an easy proposition given the attraction of the S2K.

Congratulations, dlq! I'm glad you found one at your price.
It's winter in Michigan with snow on the ground. A buy offer at MSRP is very fair to the dealer. Otherwise, he keeps it until April unsold. Your other dealer who wanted $2K over was playing the waiting game with you hoping you would cave in. He lost-- Haha! Enjoy your new car!
