Slipped Clutch Advice please
Hi all,
Trying a quick get away at the lights and slipped the clutch
. Lots of revs and no go, then came horrid smell.
I know what I did wrong, my questions are,
How long does the smell last?
Have I done any damage to the clutch?
Cheers for the responses in advance
Anthony

Anthony-
I posted some time ago with the exact same query. Unfortunately, I think you are going to get a myriad of responses and not much help.
In my opinion, (based entirely on nearly 14 years driving experience and driving a variety of vehicles from Jeep CJ's to Acura NSX's) you didn't do anything wrong. The clutch that comes with our car is a piece of poop. It is not strong enough to handle the supposed, poor torque ratings of our car.
The smell will last a while. The only damage that you have done is minimal if this is the first time other than taking some life off of your clutch.
I am not trying to be a smart ass, but I suggest you do a quick search on the word clutch. There have been quite a few threads about this with responses from folks who understand what they are talking about far better than I do.
Just so you know, I had my entire clutch assembly replaced under warranty when this happened to me. The problem is that all it did is get me a new crappy clutch to fry. Twice I have slipped the clutch a bit (once accelerating quickly up hill and the second time I was merging into traffic). Both events were normal driving and should not have slipped the clutch. In fact, I can slip the clutch in my crappy old 1996 Civic nearly all day long and not have this problem.
Good luck.
