Default Slipping Clutch?

How can you tell if your clutch is slipping or not? Is there any odor that is produced or other obvious sign that something is wrong? Sometimes, when under hard acceleration, shifting from 1st to 2nd at redline, I don't feel that rush of power. The engine revs as if the tires are spinning wildy but without any tire screeching. Could this be caused by a combination of tire-wear and road surface or am I burning the hell out of my clutch. I've had the dealer look at it twice and both times they came back with "clutch operating within factory specs. could not duplicate problem." I'm probably just paranoid (I hope), but...
Oh, did I mention I have no mechanical skills so taking things apart is out of the question for me.

These are pretty typical symptoms of a slipping clutch.

Not a slipping clutch per se - its the stupid clutch release delay valve in 04+ S2000s - very evident under hard accel at redline, where the rpms tend to hover after you pop the clutch from the 1-2 shift.

Easiest fix is to just shift slower, but if you're racing the car, most people remove the delay or replace the 04+ clutch cylinder with an -03 part. It will wear your clutch assembly quicker, but is designed to ave the engine in the event of an overrev on downshift if you're quick enough.

If you search the forums, you'll find some good posts.

Actually, I thought that the clutch delay is there to keep you from shocking the diff.

I've never been in an AP2 with clutch delay, but that to me screams worn clutch. I can't imagine the clutch delay would allow the engine to spin wildly before it engages. To determine, please tell us how long it takes for the clutch to catch and power to be delivered.

And I agree about the CDV being in place to prevent dumping the clutch and harming the diff

If your clutch is indeed slipping you will notice it right away.the revs climb but no go.I've heard removing the delay valve is something to think about if you like to launch the car and know how to do it properly you shouldn't have any issues removing your delay valve.

Peace
