SLK350 vs S2000
I drove my sister's SLK and must say that these are two distinctive cars. I enjoyed the low end grunt of the SLK but the handling and sportiness of the S is far more superior. The S is a true sports car while the SLK is a luxurious touring convertible when you wanted it to be. Let's just say that I am waiting to take over her car in a year or 2 when she's bored of it. I can use it for both fun and work.

I agree. If you're driving only one car I can see the draw of the SLK. It's a very nice car! But I'm with Richard... with a nice MB coupe in the garage, I like the rawness and sport of the S2000 on the days where you want a car that doesn't lose anything in translation.
I'm sorry, but I don't know what an SC 430 is. It is not a Mercedes Benz model that I know of. My Mercedes is a C 320 sedan, and not a coupe. IMO, Mercedes Benz does not build a TRUE sports car, unless it is the elusive SLK 55 AMG that I am having problems with finding one to test drive. Or perhaps the McLaren that sells for well over $400K. Mercedes Benz is more into building fine sedans and GT cars.
Perhaps the SC 430 to which you refer is the Lexus model with the retractable hard top. And no, the s2k is nothing like that at all. This Lexus is a very "soft" GT car, whereas the s2k is a very "hard" sports car.
Thanks,
Richard

Buy the SLK, I know 4 Mercedes mechanics and they tell everyone to buy a Benz, keeps them busy/employed!
Personally I would get a S2k, the new SLK has weird proportions to me, the shape resembles a shoe. It looks about as tall as it is wide.

Yes, I understand what you were asking now. The MB SLK is, IMO, much sportier than the Lexux SC 430., which would be better compared with MB' larger roadsters, the SL series. The SLs are GT cars, period.
Thanks,
Richard

I'm almost afraid o tel you this, but in the latest JD Powers survey, Mercedes came in way ahead of Honda on reliability. There are complaints all over this board about s2k problems, as there are on the Mercedes Benz Club of America board. Again, both are highly reliable in my ownership experience.
Thanks,
Richard

I'm surprised about the JD Powers thing...I was just reading in the newspaper yesterday that in problems per 100, Honda came in first and GM (yes GM!) beat out Toyota for 2nd!
Actually, I would say that the **exclusivity** of the S2000 is on the decline. Used to be that the S2000 was the car Honda didn't include in its promotions - sort of like GM isn't including the corvette in its current family plan thing, but if you look a little deeper, but not too hard, you'll see that this year (first ever I believe) the S2K is included in Honda's Summer Clearance Event.
To me, this means that the S2K is about to change drastically, or the S2K is about to be MASS produced
I do have a unique looking S2K (sort-of), but I tell you what....I must see a hundred a day now
Right now the S2K is not my daily, I use a Civic Hybrid for that, but if I do buy the SLK I think the only way I could justify it were to sell both the S2K and the Hybrid and make the SLK my daily driver.
Decisions, Decisions.......
