Smooth shifting?
Hi, I'm new to driving stick and have gone through most of the threads i can find using the search button. The problem I'm having is that when i step on the clutch to shift up, i always notice my passengers lunging forward a little. This is just stepping on the clutch and not even shifting yet or anything. Is there something i can do to avoid or minimize this from happening? Thanks for the advice.
Just try and complete the shift as quick as possible. As soon as you know the clutch is fully pushed in, shift quick and release without making the car lurch. I've been driving the car for nearly 4 months now and I still don't have it down myself, but you will get better at it.
Practice Practice Practice
I've been driving stick for a little over a month, people on my ass when im on a hill still get me nervous a little, But driving to work in rush hour traffic gives me plenty of practice. The things I want to work on now is to get consistently smooth shifts, I can't seem to get 3rd smooth on a consistent basis, also I would like to learn heel toe, etc...
Also when you step in the clutch it takes the ''load'' away so it will go faster, is it the same feeling as when you come to a stop, and when you push the clutch in the car goes faster? That kinda lunge?

I just completed my first month of driving stick, and I'm just starting to get it smooth. Some reason I started driving a lot smoother after test driving crappy american cars for a few hours. Made me realize how good shifting on the S is. You need to shift quickly. The problem I'm having is that it is hard to get the car moving smoothly. Oh and I needa learn heel to toe too.

Don't let off the gas before putting the clutch in. It's hard to describe, but if you let off the gas a split second after putting the clutch in, the shift will be smoother.

Just as one would ease into the throttle do so as you let off. Less jerky, and more smooth shifts means the passenger you just spent all night drinking with will be less likely to hurl in your s2k. Trust me, ever little bit counts. ;\

so that is something to look forward to in your driving future but for now just focus on getting your every day driving down or else you will really jerk around when trying to heel toe and you may even upset the chasis enough to end up wrapped around a tree. So good luck and just keep working on it, one day it will come

Have you actually had anyone complain, or is it just more of your own concern?
