after all my talk about my car understeering I found myself in a tank-slapper situation recently which could have ended up badly. This is the first time I ever got the rear loose in 7 years of ownership, which I thought was a pretty good record for an ap1.
Glad you saved it!

There are tons of people on here who put their fingers in their ears and keep screaming that "snap oversteer is a myth," but with the perfect storm of [bad] conditions, this car can bite you really fast, especially the early AP1s.

I'm not a fan of the OEM 16" S02s -- they felt far too slippery in cooler temperatures, when wet, and more than halfway worn. Check out the Continental DW if you live in an area with no snow.
I'll one up you with the pilot sport A/S 3+, I have them, zero drama in the rain whatsoever

I agree with 879. pilot sport A/S 3+ and no sliding in the rain

just out of curiosity - what size pilot sport A/S 3+ will fit on ap1? I recall reading something about the contact patch on oem S02 tires being larger than other tires of the same size markings.

It's also worth noting that the car handles completely different stock and modded. Most track guys go for a 245/255 square setup and it really transforms the behavior of the car. I felt like the car was much easier to drive at the limts with a stock wheel/tire size. Very predictable if you have a basic sense of car control.

Ah....forum life....
That was in the Tire and Wheel subforum. The guys that haunt there would be agast at this heretic A/S talk...

I must have insisted on pushing the car through the last 45 degrees of my 180 degree curve when I pushed down on the gas pedal a bit too early, so I in some way was ready to catch it, and I did after a bit of drama, lol. I created the event 100% though, not the car's fault. I wonder if the lsd locked up through the curve due to the throttle increase ?

Correction is like a reflex. If you have to think about it... it's too late. At least, it's not like a bike. Where you find yourself deposited on the ground, after a miscalculation.

I agree, practice (on a track) makes for better reactions.

Just going to say, pendulum effect is caused by you over correcting. It stepping out is due to you trying to drive fast. Be happy you didn't kill yourselves, or someone walking.

Think what would have happened if you hit a pole with the driver side of the car. You'd be f&@$ed. I've put nearly a 100k on my ap1, driven in snow, rain, sub zero temps, you name it. The car actually understeers in a lot of conditions, unless you decide to be brazen enough to gas it. Tail doesn't come out off throttle, unless you flick it. So tail out, is too much gas. We can argue it came out because the fsb is too soft, even early ap1's but in reality it's not stiff enough for fast driving.

Go to an autox if you try to drive on a racetrack without proper knowledge or experience your putting yourself and others at risk at higher speeds and chances are, you'll never learn. Do an autox learn the limits at 25-40mph. Joke is you'll never hit 60 at an autocross. Whenever I go to an autox I don't care about times, all I do is have fun.

Try going and try doing this. Once you master it, snap over steer and swb cars will be a pleasure to drive.
