Default So...About these 4.57 gears...

Or any gear swap for that matter. I understand that it's adding like 8-18 percent of "thrust". But my question is this. Would it be like adding 16-32 horses to the ground, or 16-32 ft/lbs? Or neither?

The reason I ask, is because I got to thinking about it, and adding, say, 15 ft/lbs across the torque band would equate to about 25 horses at 9000 revs.

Or is it just purely "thrust", like adding the ft/lbs, but not the horses? Does all this make sense to anybody?

final drive gears make no power at all and i am pretty sure no tourqe either. its just shorting each gear so that the car is now getting to speed a lot faster. i have 4.44's.

Yeah, I know they dont really make any power or torque, I was just referring to the feel. But the car does "feel"faster, no?

to answer your original question, consider it an addition to torque so ft-lbs (not ft/lbs which would be ... umm ... something else. not sure what exactly. density perhaps? ).
