Smile So someone backed up into me...

So, yeah, I'm behind a cab at a stop sign and he decides to basically throw it into reverse and back into me (that's the basic gist of the story).

Front bumper is essentially cracked in half and my left quarter panel has a scratch on the front of it. Taking the car in tomorrow to my body shop so that my guy can take a look at it and give me an estimate and then hopefully his insurance will send me a check for that much and I'll be able to replace/paint my bumper.

Now, my question is, I KNOW that going through Honda will get me an OEM bumper for a crazy amount of money. What I would really like to do, would be to get the check and purchase an aftermarket bumper/paint which should basically be the same cost as an OEM one/paint. What do you guys think/recommend? TYIA!

Yeah, I was looking at Bulletproof and all their bumpers are obviously $$$. However, how much would say, a replica CWest front bumper or something to that effect go for and where would I pick one of those up?

That SUX big time, I guess it depends on the time it takes to get the bumper you want and how long you are willing to wait.

Xistence,

I am a claims adjuster for one of the big three insurance companies. Tell your insurance company to write the estimate for your vehicle, the bumper is around $350, your looking at about 3 hours refinish time plus time to remove the old one and install the new one, and depending on your adjuster if you can convince him, have him give you time for blending into the hood and fenders. Also have them write time for the scratch on the fender, they will probably write 1 hour. Then tell him you will use your own body shop and have him cut you the check. If i was in your shoes I would go for this one, my personal favorite.

Take it to any reputable shop in your area that does good work and tell them to paint it and have them install it. Urethane is a bit of a pain to work with, so you might have to come out of pocket a tad bit, but it would be worth it.

Also dont use your insurance, get the stupid cad drivers insurance info and file a claim through them. That way you dont have to pay your coll deductible.

Good luck and pm me if you have any questions, I will write a quick estimate tommorow at work to tell you exactly how much you can or should expect, dont take anything less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
