Default Soft top noises, two of them, and my dealers' response/fix.

Issue 1:
I have had issues since I purchased my car about a "rattle" noise coming from the glass window in the soft top. The noise is hard to describe, but I would equate it to the sound it would make if you were rapidly tapping the glass with your fingernails. It only occurs at speeds that the wind shakes the window....or usually over 45 mph. Obviously, it's easier to hear if the windows are up and the stereo is off. If you hold the glass steady the noise goes away.

Response 1:
I finally took in my car to have the deal look at it. They said that they were able to reproduce the noise and they didn't know what to do about it. They also said that they called Honda and they were told that they did not have a solution for this issue. Apparently, this has been reported around the country and there is no solution from Honda as of yet. The dealer told me to continue to follow up until Honda figures out what to do.

Issue 2:
After about 13k miles I noticed a very annoying metal-on-metal creak coming from the top mechanism closest to the drivers head.

Response 2:
The dealer told me that my latches have become loose and were not securing the top tightly enough. He said he has seen this before on the S. I thought this sounded odd, but after the latches were replaced the noise went away.

I thought this may be helpful to anyone having similar issues.

I have a 2000 but I do have a tapping sound like you described coming from the back of the passenger seat behind the headrest area. I have never been able to figure what is causing it.

I have the rattle behind the passenger side, sounding like it's coming from the rear or the trunk area. I've been doing research and a lot of people that have had this says it was a lose nut on the spare. I'm checking mine out tomorrow....

1) It's a vert. Deal with the wind noise.
2) The dealer did you right.

1) It's not wind noise, it's a very annoying rattle.

I have a MY2001 with a plastic window and the vinyl top material wil vibrate and smack the plastic window, making a rather loud sound. I wonder if this is the same thing with a glass window? Does the top material overlap the glass window? It does on the plastic window and this is where the vibrations are coming from (on the sides of the window). To fix mine, I put some soft foam rubber weatherseal material in between the top and the plastic window. No more annoying vibration sounds. The weather seal has adhesive on the back of the rubber and you can buy it at a hardware store.
