Default soft top question

I got a good deal on an 2002 but problem is it has a humongo hole on the driverside top. Looks like someone tried to stick their whole arm in to unlock the car. In my situation i just need to replace the top correct? My motor is fine so im assuming i dont need to get one. I was looking at the diy replacement and it looks freakishly hard to replace it, should i just go to a professional?

Also, how much does an OEM top go for. I've seen some in the marketplace forum going for $400-$600. One seller is asking $800 but i think it comes with a motor. Thanks

I remember hardtopguy.com has 2000-2001 hardtops w/plastic window for over 600 and 2002 and up hardtops w/glass windows for a bit over 900 bucks. Thats not including the frame and motor.

the easiest thing to do is to buy the whole top assembly with motors for about $1,000 and replace the whole thing - nothing beats OEM and although a 6 hour job - it is the easiest way to go.

You do not need to replace the motors or frame to replace the top.

The aftermarket tops are from Robbins...they are decent if you are on a budget. Topsonline.com and CabrioWorld are two good vendors...you may need to call Topsonline if you don't see the top you want, but they do have all the Robbins tops available.

It is not a difficult job, but it is very time consuming.

Shop around and get the best deal you can on a top. Prefferably a Robbins made out of canvas . Then shop around for an installer. Prices vary WIDELY. I had estimate from $500- $1200 for labor. I wound up paying $600 for the top and found a local installer who did an excellent job for only $500.

I think this is your best bet, I replaced my top myself in about 7 hours, I have a 2001 and converted the frame for the 2002 and up top. I had no help or prior experience, pretty easy just takes some time. I did the job a little over a year ago and the top still looks new. (I use 303 every few mounths.) The glass window is a little different on the aftermarket top than the OEM but most people don't even notice. When I first started looking for tops I was a little skechy on getting a non OEM top due to quality and fitment reasons, but I am completely happy with the Robbins top. Good fitment and the quality is exceptional.
