Default Soft Top replaced under warranty?

Hey guys i have less than 20k miles on the car and only drop the top maybe 1-2 times a day. Today i noticed a inch long tear along the passenger side. My best guess is it rubs against the frame as it folds down and over time it wore through. I never noticed it before till i carefully watched it fold down today.

Anyways do you think Honda would fix this out of good will due to a crappy design in the folding mechanism? Or would they try n make me at the cost? Suggestions? Anyone else been through this BS?

I had my soft top replaced on my '01 under warranty, due to a small tear. My '05 soft top is getting two worn spots underneath. I guess I may have a problem too.

You may have to be persistant but they'll usually honor the warrenty. Has your car been serviced at the dealer the whole time? If so, you're a "good customer" to them and they'll be more inclind to make you happy.

If you don't ask, the answer is "no".

Precisely. Posts here have indicated some have gotten it and some have not. You can only know for your situation if you ask.

Honda replaced mine (under warranty) without hesitation when the driver's side latch ripped the top (2005 / 3000 miles). At 7000 miles I noticed that a fabric thermal bond on the new top was pulling apart along the first crossmember of the collapsible framework. I was able to figure out the problem. When they installed the replacement roof, the elastic straps that pull that first crossmember back hadn't been tensioned correctly. As a result, the first crossmember wasn't folding back properly when the top was lowered. This put tension on the seam and pulled it apart. I showed it to the service manager and he's ordering another new replacement top. I'll make sure they tension those straps correctly when this second replacement top is installed.

I worry that this is something that happens to many of us.
If it does to me I'd like a blue replacement top.
I think that would look sweet on the Laguna Blue.
And the hardtop is still calling out my name.

I had to have my soft top and frame replaced after just 3 days of ownership!

Apparently the tensioning straps(?) are to blame and allowed the spot just above the driver's side header latch to rub a sharp part of the frame.

This put a 2 inch tear into the soft top material. Of course it was raining when I took delivery of the car causing me to resort to "oh so cool looking" duct tape.

I'm hoping to get it back today. This type of defect seems so "un-Honda-like"
