Thumbs up Softtop Question

I need a new top for my 2000 S2000 and mine originally came with the plastic window and i want to switch to the glass window. The Honda here says that if my car didn't orginially come with the defroster that it can't be hooked up when I get the new top. Is this true? I have a hard time believing anything this dealership tells me b/c I went there before trying to get a quote for a new top and the guy there said that I couldn't get a top with a glass window b/c they don't make it. I know... he's retarded, Does he not see the S2000 in the showroom with a GLASS window??

Also, what do you think a reasonable amount would be for the labor to install the top b/c they told me it would be $1450.00 for installation and that seems a bit high to me.

Thanks for that link, I saw that before and wasn't sure what it was anymore. Does anyone have pictures of this brand top installed on their car? Anyone know of any problems with this top?

First off, run far from that service writer......but you already knew that.

Yes you CAN hook up the defrost. It requires an extra wiring harness and you'll need to use a switch for it installed either where the coinholder goes, or on the dash opposite the cruise control.

Labor ranges anywhere from $500 to $1k, but that is from upholstery shops.........which is where Honda is sending it anyway. They outsource that kind of work.

Good luck,
Hockey

p.s. The Cabrioworld top works great. "Shannon" here did hers earlier this year without regrets. I will be ordering a canvas top from them real soon!

I just called a local upholstry shop and they suggest that I use one of these 3 brands of tops, I'm not sure if this is how they're spelled b/c i didn't ask I just wrote them down as he said them:

EZ On
Key
Robbins

Has anyone ever heard of these brands? He said he's installed lots of them and the EZ On one has been the best so far for S2000's.

I sent you a PM with more details, but look at this webpage I made a few years ago which still seems to be online.

The Robbins Tops are popular, but we just had one get installed and it was defective (poor quality control?).

I haven't heard of the others.

Cabrioworld has been used here a few times.

This isn't about the soft top but about the hardtop. I know Honda stopped making them for a while but haven't they started making them again? I'm just wondering b/c the guy at the honda dealership also told me that Honda no longer makes them.

I believe they (Honda) have stopped manufacturing hardtops...for awhile now. Much of what is available is from dealer inventory (stock). However, it makes me wonder...if the hardtop is an available accessory for Laguna Blue, how could Honda have stopped manufacturing?

Honestly, your absolute...best answer (or explanation) would be from a well known supporter and vendor of s2ki.com, hardtopguy.com. Let me PM him and get him to post something here.
