I agree totally. Mine was done with a laser and a titanium piston was implanted. Science is wonderful.
BTW was your wife crying for joy or fright? I know what I look like in the morning.

Congratulations Dick! That is really really great to hear. My father woke up one day about 5 years ago with NO hearing in his left ear. No explanation. Maybe he can have that surgery too.....

That is great to hear Dick, no pun intended!(ok, maybe it was intended )

VAS2k, i had a friend lose hearing in his left ear all of the sudden too. 22 years old. The doctors only offered "some kinda virus" as an explaination. Went to Johns Hopkins to no avail. Scary stuff.

Dick, was the device you had implanted the Vibrant Soundbridge from Symphonix, if so my wife is a audiologist who works for that company, her territory is the NE though. If anyone wants more info on it check out their website www.symphonix.com This device will be to the hearing impaired what laser eye surgery has been to people with vision problems.

Dick: I'd love to hear more about this operation. I think it's facinating.
I'm sure you know the feeling. All joking aside she was crying out of shear joy to be able to see without corective lenses. I have no frame of reference since my vision is 20-20 but seeing the look on her face made it worth every penny. She still gets misty some times when she thinks about it. I can only imagine suddenly hearing everything we take so much for granted.

Yeah, sure is. My folks live in Durham NC (the "City of Medicine") and work at Duke, but still no luck with a cure
