Spark Plugs recall on 2001 S2K?
I called Honda dealer today and they said my VIN # showed that there was a recall on the spark plugs. Does that mean I have to change it? Did anyone else have this recall?
the notice i received from honda indicated that 2000, 2001 and certain 2002 models were included in the spark plug recall. i had my 02 plugs changed, i would recommend having yours changed as well. plus, it also gives you an excuse to stop by the showroom to check out the 03s.
It's a recall concerning the original spark plugs coming loose.
The recall affects all 2000-2001 S2000s and 2002 S2000s with VIN numbers JHMAP1...2T000001 through JHMAP1...2T006983. It doesn't appear that the recall notice is posted in the "Library" section, as a PDF, but you should have received a letter from AHM stating that your car qualifies for the recall.

I just recently purchased this car and I'm not sure if the recall has been fixed or if it affects me. My vin # is JHMAP1....1T007224. Does that qualify for the recall? And if it does, all I have to do is purchase to spark plugs?

Not meaning to scare you but, when you've got it done, tell us how much other damage they did to your car and how many extra miles they put on the car while they had it.
eg.
rounded off cover bolt heads.
missing cover bolt(s).
dented plug cover.
stripped coil pack bolt.
missing coil pack bolt.
coil pack wiring harness not clicked in tight.
broken coil pack from being dropped.
spark plugs that are STILL not torque to new specs.
variable torque from one plug to another.
dent in hood from having left tools under the hood, having hood slammed down on tools.
scratches and dents on fenders from mechanic rubbing up against it.
scratches and dents on various places on car from being parked outside inches away from another car.
"dozens" of unneeded "test" miles (there is no need to test drive the car for a spark plug installation).
Ask how many "potential" customers got to "demo" your car just because it was handy.
Print this post out, write down all 3 readings on your odometer at the time you drop it off and hand it to the service guy before you leave (keep another note of mileage for yourself). Better yet, have them do the whole thing while you're watching.

Never met a cynical firefighter before!
I personally don't recommend handing this to your dealer.
If I went in to burger king and handed the staff a note that says don't burn my burger, don't drop it on the floor, don't spit on it, etc... guess what would probably happen?
I simply removed my spark plug cover myself, and waited while service was completed. No car wash. Everything was fine.
Just another point of view... Peace!

Caught me at an overly cynical moment, I guess. This would be the absolute worst case scenario. It's a compilation of every sad story I've heard on this board and have heard locally. Certainly, it's not all going to happen at once (we hope).
But consider this: For anyone who had any of this happen to ............ Do you not think each and every one of them would have liked to have had this warning ahead of time?
Would "GaryJ" not have liked to have had this list before those guys took his car out and blasted it all over town?
How about the guy who came back after the spark plug recall, only to have his car run like crap 2 minutes out of the shop, then discover the wiring harness to the coil pack was loose?
Or all those poor people with rounded off cover bolt heads?
Or the guy who, after a "simple" oil change, started smoking under the hood? He opened up and found the whole engine bay covered in oil and the oil cap gone. The mechanic didn't put the cap back on properly or not at all.
Whenever I hear of stories like this, I go ballistic because it could have been me. Sometimes it's easy for those who have never had any of this happen to us to lack "empathy" with those who have and instead, to have pity on those "poor" beat-up dealers. I have checked 2 local cars AFTER the spark plug recall. Neither car had the proper torque nor did all the plugs have the same torque.
OK, so printing this list and handing it to the dealer was a little over the top but at least it gives the customer an idea of what cards to lay on the table at the service desk.
