Based on the last couple of posts, those that are just sitting in the 'fast' lane at _5_ miles over the speed limit, probably just cruising _next_ to the guy that is also rolling along at _5_ miles over the limit in the right lane - you guys are the butts, not the ones trying to move on past you down the road. You're not funny, you are just the cause of some road rage - when you get flipped the finger, you've earned it. You all sound like you are from California (have you ever driven in California?) - no one gets past me... or anyone else. Jerks!
So when I sit in the slow lane, doing 70 in a 65 I'm part of the problem?

Would it not be the folks sitting in the passing (fast) lane doing 65?

i call hwy 290 "the race track" .... speed limit is 65 and down to 60
once you get closer to the city, i do 70-75 usually and i get people flyin by
and tailgating before flying by no matter what lane im in.
Sometimes when im running late ill do 80 in the fast lane and still people and come up behind me.
i dont get over, my thought is im doing 15-20 over already you can go the f around

....this is at night so traffic is light, i work 3rd shift

So you're one of those guys.

The law is, the faster car in the left lane. As soon as you're not the fastest, get out of the way.

Close... the law is keep right except to pass... as long as there is someone you are passing, you can be in the left lane, even if someone behind you is going faster. Now once you are past the slower car you are supposed to move over. At that time the faster car behind you may pass. but if there is a long line of cars in the right lane that are going 65-70, and you are passing them going 75-80, and someone comes up behind you going 85-90, you are under no legal obligation to get out of his/her way until you have finished passing the slower traffic in the right lane.

Everyone complains about speed limits being too low... What most people fail to see is that those limits are set in place and are the safe speed ANY vehicle is capable of driving in almost ANY conditions(except extreme cases). I wouldn't want a large semi truck driving faster than the speed limit on most roads. It's just unsafe. Unfortunately they can't regulate certain speeds for certain types of cars. A sports car can drive at a higher speed more safely than a dump truck at that same speed.

Drive safe!

Like I said, I agree those speeds are a bit slow for regular cars... But you gotta account for all types of road legal vehicles... Same goes for those giant budget/u-haul rental trucks... An average truck-inexperienced driver in one of those is pretty scary even at the speed limit. Throw some rain/snow into the mix and it doesn't get any prettier.

^^

That's why many states have a "basic rule" addition that states you drive at a speed that is safe and prudent for the conditions at the time.
If it's raining/snowing or if you are driving a vehicle you are unfamiliar with, it is your responsibility to adjust your driving as needed to be safe.

Most people assume that Basic Rule means they are allowed to go 10mph over the limit because conditions were clear/dry/"fine" which is not the case. It's meant to factor in the unknowns to justify a lower than posted speed more than anything.

OK, I'm not trying to be an anarchist here but the reality of daily driving life is that people have to drive on these roads, at (or slightly above?) the speed limit, with a wide variety of people who may or may not agree with your chosen speed, and with troopers hiding in the bushes (or anyplace else) to make sure that it's being done.

Bottom line, makes daily driving at best difficult and at worst frustrating or dangerous.
