Maybe you need to drive you car more instead of letting it be a garage queen!

I'm arachnophobic so If that ever happens to me while I'm driving, I'll for sure get into an accident.

you may never get him with a shop vac--they can hold on pretty tightly and hide in the crevices inside the A piller.
One option is to go to someplace like Target, Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes and pick up a can of Spider spray---there's bug spray specificallly for spiders and it's odor-free to humans --you can spray the carpet really well and then close the car overnight and the fumes from the spray should kill it---if not, it has a residual effect for 6-8 weeks so it will get him eventually.
good luck!!!

That picture was like a car wreck that was disgusting, yet I couldn't stop looking. It's amazing how spiders will always choose to drop on a web right in front of your face. Or, is it that when they do it behind or beside us we just don't see it? Hmmm...ponder that.

I hate spiders and am not unafraid (see how I dodged sounding like a wuss?) of them, but if someone around me hates them more, I can all of a sudden pick them up and totally lose fear of them. Know what they call that? Heroism, baby.

I used to spare spiders that were living too close to my domain, but after seeing this video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=0O1Vocv10IE

it's all seek and destroy now.

Man, I haven't seen that vid in awhile. It never ceases to make me crack up in glee and horror.
