Default Spin and Slide Off Road

So this evening, the weather started to get bad before the weather forecaster said it was going to, so it caught me off guard out in my S.

Anyways, to make a long story short I hit some ice, did a 180 on the highway, and slid off the road into the ditch. It really wasn't a ditch, but rather a field. I was at low speed, 25mph at most before I began the spin.

Anyways, the car doesn't seem damaged at all. There is a small scuff under the front lip that looks like it can easily be buffed out with a little elbow grease. The car went off road rear-end first, which I think saved a lot of cosmetic damage.

Since the road was wet, I don't seem to have done any damage from the slide. Had to use a tow truck with the tow hook to pull it out. When the vehicle stopped, the wheels were straight and not turned, and the car is definitly driveable and doesn't seem to have any damage. Wheels and alignment seem fine.

Like I said, it was all very low speed.

Anyways, worst case scenario, did I do any major suspension damage, or did I really luck out?

btw - it was a very flat transition from highway to grass, so it was really easy to get out

drive it for a bit, and see if it feels different. (of course, don't get yourself into another spin)

from what you describe, it sounds like the forces were rather low and could be comparable to perhaps a hard day at the track, which this car was designed for.

and if you did break something, it's likely minor and easily fixed, and not something major like a tweaked frame.

The same thing happened to me at the track. Drives the same. No problem. At least I hope so.
Even Honda says that this car is built with the track in mind and spinning at the track is not uncommon, so I wouldn't worry too much.

You just picked it up not too long ago didn't you?

If it feels fine, it probably is. If it keeps haunting you that there may be something wrong, have someone check it out to put your fears to rest.

Sorry to hear what happened.

I would take a look at it in the morning and take it for a nice test spin around the block (not litterally of course!!). If it feels good and looks fine, it probably is. If it really worries you after that, you an always take it to a shop to have it checked.

Consider yourself lucky man. Were you on RT23 or RT30 when this happened? I know what you mean by Ohio weather changing in a moments notice.

Glad you're ok

I was on Rte 4 heading south from Sandusky.

Marcus: Yeah, I just picked it up last Saturday, which is probably why I was more apt to drive it. I'm going to give it a test drive this morning to see what's going on.

The weather changed from a light rain to ice just like nothing.

Route 4 four lane ? where? There are a lot of deep ditches north of Attica if I remember. Some I wouldn't want to get a Jeep stuck in.
Lucky lucky lucky is all I got to say......
