Default Spinning

Just a follow up on my earlier posting re TWO SPINOUTS IN TWO DIFFERENT S2Ks. Both spinouts were split -second events. NO WARNING. No slipping or sliding that one could correct. Luckily for me there were no other vehicles involved and nobody was hurt except my little pet mixed poodle tried to disappear up my left sleeve and didn't stop trembling for an hour. .. Regarding traction on packed snow with OEM tyres, when I picked my car up following the 3 grand repair bill the shop guy advised me not try exiting via the main entrance, which had about about a 15 degree slope, telling me the car wouldn't make it. Of course when I left I had to try that slope anyway. He was correct. No go. Instead , and on his recommendation, I drove very gingerly around the building and onto a side street that had been cleared. Made it home OK on cleared surfaces but got stuck attempting to get up my driveway (packed snow again) which has a slope of maybe 10 degrees. After much to-ing and fro-ing I finally edged my way up and into my garage but not before being momentarily immobile crossways in the middle of the slippery street. Memo to self: MY HONDA IS NOT THE SAME AS MY WRX WHERE TRACTION IS CONCERNED! AND NEVER FORGET IT!

Wow... there's the understatement of the day. You're driving a rear wheel drive S2000 on snow, with S02's. You're lucky (or unlucky I suppose) to have got the car moving at all.

Why are people so amazed that summer tires don't work in the snow!!!???? WTF?

ANY car is going to suck in the snow if its on summer-only rated tires. It's downright dangerous to try and drive in any winter conditions on tires that were not designed for it.

My neighbor has a 3-month-old AWD Lancer Evo still on the factory summer tires. The last time it snowed he could not even get it out of his parking spot. He'd try and back out, and it just slides sideways. He ordered a set of set of snow wheels and tires the next day.

It's not your car. It's your tires. Plenty of people on this forum have snow tires on their S2ks and sandbgas in the trunk and do just fine on wintery roads.

i forget who made the original point about F1 - but people should watch a grand prix in the rain. the perfect real-world example of why a tire isn't just a tire. The tires are the limiting factor of grip, braking, and acceleration...

If both spinouts were in snow with OEM tires... Well, the expression "once bitten, twice shy" should come to mind.

Seriously, you shouldn't drive a light, RWD, low-center-of-gravity car with summer tires on snow. Even the limited slip diff isn't going to make life very fun for you.
