Spoiled Kid (Long)
Hold on to the TL and enjoy COLLEGE. I hardly ever drove when I was at school. More time was spent going to mixers, and Fraternity parties. Sured it would be cool to tool around campus in one of these, but is that worth the monthly payments? I'd rather be debt free in college and live the life of an international playboy
College is the only time where you can sluff off, do nothing and just drink, screw and party! And if you do the college thing right, you will not have enough time to drive!
Additionally, I think guys have waaaaay to much testosterone and not enough brain cells during that age. You have a "god-like" mentality where you can do no wrong. With a car which has the devilish nature of the s2k...you're just cruising for trouble.

i forgot to mention that the job im looking at is going to pay for my education as a bonus. so along with the pay, i wanted to think about using the normal tuition money to pay for the car. also, if i were to finance, would i be able to easily sell it if i wanted the new model that came out?
thank you, guys, especially my fellow Bruin

But if you got a plan to pay it off, go for it cuz you got nothing to worry about it. I'm currently in the process of my plan to buy an S2000, hopefully it goes through.
Dude...you don't sound spoiled to me and even if you were who cares...! You only live once...experience as much as you can in life and always try to make yourself happy...if getting the stook would make you happy and you can afford it...why not...get it bro and never look back!
Hmmm, factoring in the job that is going to pay tuition on top of your normal salary. A nearly paid off TL. And if your driving record has been clean for the last 3 years. I'd say go for it.
It appears that none of your income will be needed for school expenses nor your TL. I don't really see a reason against getting the S2k. It seems you won't be working any extra hours just for the car, and you will still have some money to play with so I'd say go for it! You are only young and impractical once..
Just make sure all the seat time you take in your new S2k doesn't cut into study time at school..

As a 22 years young UCLA grad (class of 2000) I think that I can relate pretty well to your situation. Believe me, I've been around my share of spoiled kids in my time... making the transition from Palos Verdes Peninsula High (where my good friend drove a Viper) on to a brief stint in the whole fraternity/sorority scene at UCLA.
I know this may sound sick and twisted, but I really do enjoy writing my car note check every month. I wanted to own an S2000 from the moment I first saw a photo of it/read a review. I worked at the Calfed branch on Westwood Blvd. about 30 hours a week while attending college full time, and after about a year in the workforce, I purchased my S2000 in July of 2001.
I can take my S2k for a drive on Mullholland or Topanga Canyon absolutely satisfied and guilt free knowing that I have earned every HP and every RPM myself.
Something earned is more valuable than something given. If you can say the same, than I say by all means go for it! Welcome to the club and be careful driving your baby around the mean streets of Westwood. Parking is such a nightmare!

Hrmmmm. I would keep the TL for now. After working 40/wk and going to school (adding the homework factor) how much time are you going to be driving for? What's the basis on LEASING an s2000 when you won't drive it much and it is asking for beyond wear and tear costs? Maybe you do have a lot of driving time, I don't know, I haven't worked and gone to school at once, ever, so I don't have a more valid frame of reference. Buddies of mine at college have recommended to other friends (and myself occasionally) not to get an S, z3, porche, whatever, for college because of the jealousy factor: too many stories of keyed and stolen cars. Dependant on your college lifestyle, is this a car you might crash from a drag race or have a buddy puke in? (BTW this is not a drag racing car IMHO
)
To me, you are not spoiled. But, being "spoiled" is totally opinionated. You earned money with your own money (I assume,) that doesn't seem spoiled.
I used to have a friend who hit a PARKED BOAT with her old (1972) tiny car so her parents bought her a new Saturn
To me, that is spoiled (to a degree) It would be nice to have that kind of luck/connections, but I have been blessed in other aspects of life!
Best of luck to you!!
