Spring and shock installation in Austin
I've purchased a set of performance shocks and springs and I'm having trouble finding anyone in the Austin area to install them. Most places I've called will not install customer-supplied parts, which the ones that will want an exorbitant price to install them. Does anyone have experience with a local shop that will do this at a reasonable price?
MZM Performance - 837-6200...they did all the work on my old Supra Turbo, and my S2000 will go there if I do any performance upgrades that I can't do myself. I think it's safe to say they have more experience w/ Japanese performance cars (ex. Supra and RX-7 turbos) than anybody in town. Tell them I referred you, they'll take good care of you. Mohammad and Mutasim (the owners, who are brothers) are super nice guys.
BTW, I thought you were selling your car. What changed your mind to keep and modify it?

Thanks Chris, I'll give them a call. Oops, I forgot to mention that I need this done on my VTEC del Sol. I did sell the S2000 and to deal with that grief I'm finally doing performance mods on the del Sol.

Jesse - yeah, too bad you don't live here anymore. How about 2 6-packs of Guiness to come to Austin and do it? Or perhaps a nice summer-appropriate Hefe-Weizen?
Shing - I've often wodered about that HondaAcura place. I've driven by it several times and wondered what they offer. I did call them last week and they sounded very unsure as to whether it was something they could do. I thought about telling them that "it's not rocket science, it's just a few suspension components". I would like to try it myself but don't have the spring compressor or the area/equipment to lift it up.
To tell the truth, I didn't stop and consider that someone might charge $200 to put this stuff on. I can get my mechanic to do it - although he doesn't have his shop in Austin anymore.
Thanks (as always) for all your helpful suggestions.

If you want to try doing it yourself, I believe Pep Boys will loan tools like spring compressors for a refundable deposit. You're welcome to borrow my jackstands as well. Personally, I'm too nervous about dealing w/ all that spring tension & have paid others to do it in the past.
You people are too gracious! I'm taking my car in to my mechanic Friday for some other work - if he can get to my suspension upgrades without the Honda managers looking over his shoulder too much then that will solve my problem. If not, Jesse I'll definitely take you up on your offer. I have a garage at my apartment (I have to keep my baby warm at night - for the 18 months I owned my S2000, my del Sol looked covetously at that garage) which, while somewhat cramped, works ok for car repair. I've learned to do all my work in the daytime, though, as the scorpions begin their nocturnal forraging at (when else) nighttime.
I'm with you Chris - all the potential energy stored in those springs frightens me a little. I like to do as much work myself as I can, but not at the expense of a sudden suspension upgrade to my forehead. There's a lobotomy joke in there somewhere but I can't seem to make it happen.
Thanks again - I'll keep you posted.
