Tire Changer / Balancer Tip
Bridgestone said it was important that when installing the tires to only choose a shop which has a Hunter Tire Changer which eases the tire over the rim and seals the bead correctly without damaging/scratching the rim. Hunter

Experiencing the same thing myself on some roads, I believe it has to do with my alignment which is messed up. I have to change a rear control arm....
I would think it is improper alignment...

I had this on my car after i got a nail in the tire at 1500 miles. i replaced one rear for a stock S02 and it pulled to the right (side of the new rear tire) under accelleration.
My tire shop refused to acknowledge anything being wrong so i went to another place who told me that it was a rubber compound designed for porsche - it is softer and stickier hence the pulling (it was gripping better).
i changed the other (left) rear to the same and the problem went. But i did get a much grippier rear end :-)

Hey, guys. Thanks for all this input. Hootsama described the problem perfectly, and "hunting" sounds like the right word to describe it.
I'll have it aligned this weekend and see if it gets better.
For the record: I put new rears on (fronts have about 7000 miles). They are OEM (Honda) S02's (confirmed by the markings on the side). They don't appear to be defective, but I may not be able to tell visually. They were installed by a BMW specialist -- perhaps they were sloppy or ignorant. They were damn expensive, though. (Stupid TireRack recommended installer. I'm going over to the TireRack forum to bitch about that...bbl).
