SR20 in S2K
Hey guys, please humor me......
Has anyone ever put an SR20 DET or similar turboed engine in the S2K? LOTS of torque, durable, etc. Seems like a perfect match as opposed to turboing or SCing the Honda engine and still not having much torque (relatively speaking).

I don't think it would fit. But there are enough guys with tons of technical background on here that could verify.
Never heard of one being done. Actually never heard of anything being swapped into the S.
I've heard of lots of cars that had our engine swapped into theirs though.

Second, thanks for the responses. Based on the threads I have read; it seems difficult to find anyone that has a turbo'd S2K w/out problems. Maybe lack of aftermarket support or not enough people have done it yet, not sure. The main issues being fuel management and ignition timing curves (which is not uncommon with any application).
The DET is low compression, factory turbo'd, plenty of aftermarket (and OEM) ECUs that are plug and play, etc. Engines are readily available AND affordable. You can make huge power with these engines w/out any internal mods. I'm not knocking the S2K engine, it is truly awesome, but torque is also awesome.

Seriously though, check out the Forced Induction forum and you'll see that many people run boost reliably and get good numbers. I think the thing with turbo for the S is that it requires a lot of attention and fine tuning. Difficult, but not impossible. A Comptech SC you can just bolt and go if you keep the kit stock

Here's how I see it. The F20c is not a good place to start from for the simple reason that it has been factory tuned for maximun NA performance. It has fundamental differences from an engine that was factory tuned for boost. Now, if you like the S2000 but want boost you have to either rebuild the engine completely to accept boost or you can hack it and live with the unideal mismatch of boost and a high compression NA tuned engine. Some do and they suffer.
The S2000 is an odd bird to say the least. High strung power with a well balanced chassis... it leaves some people wanting more.
I say just boost something you don't mind blowing up and leave the S as is and enjoy it for what it is.

The F20C is a GREAT engine to start from for boosting. Why? It comes with forged internals and many things you'd have to UPGRADE other cars engines just to do. We have S2k's that have used 26psi on an otherwise BONE STOCK engine block, save a head gasket to lower compression.
This engine loves boost just fine. But, as with any turbo car, if it isn't tuned properly you will have problems. don't blame the car for bad tuning. now, this doesn't mean it is "trouble free" but it's just as trouble free as turbo'ing any other car out there. again, if not BETTER since it's such a great and solid engine to start with considering the forged parts, and many other unique things.
all you need is a head gasket to lower compression and then you can crank the boost well beyond 15psi. I think so far the highest we've seen anyone do is about 34psi. and again 26-27psi on a stock block save the head gasket. we have people driving around DAILY DRIVEN with as much as 15psi on the stock engine even with the high compression.
I suggest you do a lot more reading into boosting the S2k before making incorrect generalizations and assumptions.
The S2k engine is not some run of the mill 4 cylinder.
