Stability Control vs No Stability Control Question
Hey guys, so the 2000-2005 s2k's come without stability control (which is some sort of traction control right?) and the 2006+ models DO come with that feature.
My question is, does that mean that the newer ones that come with the traction control have better handling because you are able to push it further in the corners with a less chance of breaking out of the turn?
Also, does that mean that if you turn that traction control off, is it going to handle pretty much the same as the older models not equiped with it?
thanks guys!

Stability Control will not give you more traction, but tries to intervene when traction is lost by cutting throttle or dabbing a brake to regain control. In my experience, it kind of an all or nothing proposition
VSA is what Honda calls their traction control, and it was added in '06. It can be completely turned off, which is what you want to do during autocross or track days.
On the street I leave it on, it has nothing to do with handling per se. TSA applies the brake and cuts the throttle when it detects a problem. If its on and you try to do a drift out of a turn it will let you do a very small amount of slide, and then cuts in and kills the throttle (the TSA light flashes on the dash too), and you continue on.

I remember seeing a video of a ferrari on a test track. They showed the car coming around the same corner with three different traction control settings, fully engaged, semi engaged, and off. You could clearly see how much faster it was with the traction control off. Ofcourse this is with a professional driver.
i do not mind the vsa, and run it on the street. i have a radical alignment and vsa is all over the car when on the street. when i get to the track, i disable it, and the real fun begins... so, all in all, it is not that bad, and can be a real benefit at times.

Hmm when I first heard of the newer models having VSC I tried to look for a way to adopt the system. Unfortunately it utilizes the DBW (drive by wire) system so its not as easy as buying a control module and utilizing the ABS sensors to create a traction control as I had once thought could be done.

If you race hard you always turn off the VSC. You want to control car rotation yourself. On the street you should almost never turn off VSC because your car should not be at the slip angle limit of your tires around other cars, pedestrians, and large obstacles. Only time I turn it off on the street is if I want a maximum effort launch from a stop.
Like previously stated, traction control has nothing to do with handling. Will it help you push the car further? Eh, i guess due to the fact you have a safety net. However, if you drive like a human on the streets, with the exception of the surprise road conditions that may show up, you shouldn't need VSA. I don't have VSA, and the back has never slid out unless i was trying to make it do so.
