I'm amazed to hear that about the EVO. It's not much heavier than the S2000... I'll definitely keep that in mind.
Read the following article as well, and I bet this topic will get even more interesting.

Why the S2000 is better than an Evo

No it's not. The early AP1s have a rear biased suspension where the rear spring stiffness is quite a lot higher than the front. The opposite is true for 02-03 and even more so on AP2 (excluding CR).

I have on 01. The car handles very well and has high limits to its handling. What I have found though is that when you reach those limits the rear tends to give, suddenly too. If you react quickly you can catch it, but this is not one of the cars that you go drifting with or power slide out of corners. A very rigid chassis and little torque do not make a good drifting car from my understanding.
True, I meant to state that even AP2's will slide around if not taken care of with the VSA off.

I had an Evo IX MR.

I think they are understating its handling abilities. It handles fantastically, what killed me with that car is the build quality. The engine, suspension etc is fine but the rest of it is Mitsu garbage. Just typical bad engineering on Mitsubishi's part. Leaks, poor fitment, you name it. I saw a new one at my mechanics a few months ago and the rear window wasn't even straight.

Might want to check out a STI or WRX, much better built cars and they handle pretty damn good. I had a 2004 sti, it was built like a brick. You just couldn't kill it

Sorry man, that's just a terrible article. It SCREAMS fanboi defending his ride and should be ignored as such. The evo is a great car... it's just a shame it was made by Mitsubishi with their piss poor quality control. If you get a good one, you're golden. If you get one where the QC guy was a sleep in the backseat, you're hosed.

If you try to drive an awd car like a rwd car, you'll be disappointed.

I may have been spoiled by the light, nimble feeling of the MR2 and the S2000 that I had been autocrossing for a couple of years before. I only drove the WRX sti and the EVO occasionally and they both left the same impression - point and shoot, plenty of power, but they dont want to stop or turn like the MR2 and the S2000. Times are about equal. Acceleration made up for handling.

Don't want this to turn into an evo/sti vs S2000 debate. But if you take A-Stock at face value, you could deduce the S2000 handles better. I mean, it has a worse power/weight and torque/weight ratio (I think, haven't done the numbers), but still dominates A-stock. Additionally, I've seen some pretty bad drivers get good times in an evo/sti with a point/shoot driving style.

Anyway.

OP - what is the price range you're looking for? There are plenty of other roadsters out there that are more "stable" - M Roadster, Boxster, Solstice/Sky GXP/Redline, Miata, SLK. But there are increasingly less lightweight rwd cars around. I will say that while the S2000 isn't for everyone, if you learn to drive the car properly, it is an incredibly fun car. I don't think of the s2000 as instable anymore, I think of it as a car that is willing to turn when I tell it to.

Yeah, I didn't even notice my mistake until I read that reply.

On another note, I think the VSA saved me from spinning once, as I was merging onto a bridge in the rain. I probably got on the throttle a little too soon, I could feel and see the VSA go on. I too leave the VSA on most of the time.

I feel like at higher speeds the car seems very unstable!! like 110-120+ (i stop at 120) it seems like the car rises up... and it seems unstable as any slight braking feels it's going to spin out and flip...
