For the last 2 days, my S2000 has had an issue with stalling when it drops to idle, like coming up to a stoplight.

My first thought was MAP sensor, but when it blew up last time, it resulted in the car bucking and jerking, not just gently stalling.

Any ideas? The tank is on full...

P.S. I might add that this nonsense started at 36,200 miles... arrggghhh!!!

My car is doing the same thing. It's not stalling, but it's real close when I stop or tap the gas and return to idle. Right now my check engine light is on and I need a new 02 sensor at 16k miles. I am having it replaced later this week and we'll see if that has anything to do with it. I've already tried tapping (and tapping harder) the map sensor. No luck.

I don't know what the problem is, but heres something you might want to think about.

If the problem turns out to be something expensive and your car is out of warranty, you could still try to get Honda to fix it. With our spedo error on our car, I believe that at 36,000 miles on the odometer, it's actually 1,800 miles ahead. So technically your car has less than 36k miles even though the odo says otherwise.

Mine is doing the exact same thing...what are you normally idling at? I've thought of bumping the idle a bit...but I'm not sure if this will even make a difference?

I don't know about the S, but on my old car their is a Idle Speed Adjustment Screw for the engine. I don't know if their is anything similar on the S but it might be worth checking out.

Is the US Warranty only 36k Miles?? Its 90k here!

Mine sometimes stubles when dropping to idle. Unplugging the connector the the MAP sensor and reattaching it usually does the trick. I've never had it actually stall, though.

Is this a permanent fix, or a one-off fix?

I've also noticed that mine only does this when I'm running 3-bars in the temp gauge....keep in mind that I have the Spoon thermoswitch/stat which tends to keep me in the 2-bar range unless I'm in heavy city-driving/stop-and-go traffic, at which point I'll move up to 3-bars and this stumbling/almost stalling issue arises.

Shamu, you bought a thermostat that causes your engine to not run at 3 bars? You do realize that engines are designed to run at a certain temperature, and running it cool (as it sounds like you are) could be detrimental to the engine? Am I missing something?
