Default Started my car this morning and no Power steering?

Ok, so this morning, I get in my car to go to work, start it up, back it out of my driveway, and it suddenly felt extremely difficult to turn out... I look at the dash, and the "EPS" light is on.. I'm like WTF? Why is my power steering not working... I shut the car off, then crank it back up, and it is fine....

Anyone know what could have caused my Power Steering to temporarily go out? Any help will be greatly appcreciated..

Thanks..

BTW: it's a MY04 with only 3600 miles on it....

Make sure that your EPS fuse is firmly seated. Otherwise, it may have something to do with all of the rain we've been having lately. Since the S2000 power steering sytem is electrical, the damp weather may have caused an intermittant problem. I'd check the fuse, then wait and see if the problem recurs. I bet it doesn't, but if it does, it's time to visit the dealer to at least document the problem.

Thanks for the info!

I hate dealers, but if I have to take it in, then so be it!

I hope Pompano Honda is nice to S2000's!

hey! does this mean that we can yank the fuse out to make the S a "manlier" car (no power steering)? will doing that cause any damage?

Were you in a hurry this morning? You may have discovered one of the lesser-known "features" of this car. If you reach for the wheel and start turning it while the engine/ECU is still "booting up", so to speak, the EPS might not kick in. I've theorized that the PS system, since it's purely electric, might need to calibrate itself while stationary; when you restarted, you were probably more deliberate and took a little more time, which is why it worked. Whatever the cause, it's reasonably "normal" and nothing to worry about.

I wonder if this is related to the problem i 've seen past couple of days. (2004 s2k with 600 miles) My case was ABS light, instead of EPS. All the fuses are firmly in place, and when i restart the car, the light went out, and it was fine.

Maybe it's what twohoo mentioned ?? there's Engine/ECU boot-up time ???? hm. hm...

I drove my wife to D&C Honda Monday to drop off our Odyssey for service, the car had exactly 5,999 miles on it. We drop off the car, get back in the S and same thing, no power steering, EPS light lit up. Drove around the block went into the dealership and they said they never heard of such a thing - yeah, right.

Anyhow, restarted car and light is gone. Over the past two days this has happened every other time I've started the car. Start, EPS light. Turn it off, restart, no EPS light. Sometimes I have to do it a couple of times.

This can't be normal nor is it acceptable. Tomorrow, we schedule an appointment and cross our fingers.

id like to hijack this thread and ask a different question...a few weeks ago i was in my car with the engine off and my power steering worked! it even worked when the ignition lights were off (key in position 1....the position the radio works, but no dash lights were on) this happened 1 time and hasnt happened since.

There are listed at least 33 Diagnostic Trouble Codes for the EPS alone. This is a very complicated system where "something" can go wrong in a lot of different places. Also the system is programmed to respond to various odd scenarios (or perceived scenarios) and will shut down.
For example, if you sit and fast idle (3000 rpm or more) for 3 minutes or more, the EPS will flip a light and have a brain fart.
If you've thrown a light, the code may still be stored and if it's a repeat occurance, perhaps it might be a good idea to pull that code so you can home in on what could possibly screw up down the road (before the warranty runs out).
I'm surprised with this type of complicated system, we don't have more incidents of goofy happenings. Maybe there are but people just don't report them if they are an occasional thing.

You are correct. This has happened to me once by accident when I started the car and drove off immediately. The EPS light stayed on and I had no EPS. After shutting off the car, and restarting it on a "normal" pace, the EPS light went away and everything was normal again. I was curious to see if it was a fluke or a serious problem, so I decided to do the scenario exactly the same, and behold I was able to recreate the EPS'less start.
