Stereo and Speakers - not the usual question
I picked up my S2k yesterday, and had grand plans of replacing speakers due to the poor write up both here and other websites.
But not sure whether Honda have listened to complaints or I have a poor sense of hearing but the speakers in my stook sound superb. Have tried lots of different music ranging in bass and treble but have yet to be disappointed. Do you think they might have fitted new better speakers as standard now? Has anyone else who has bought recently think that their speakers are poor? Maybe I am just easily pleased
Anyway dont think I will be doing anything to the speakers, will leave them stock - its just that bloody horn is crap
Would appriciate your opinions and thoughts,
Anthony

Well i found the factory speakers a shocker(i got a 99 S2K). Install a pair of Kappa Infinity Perfects and run em off a 2 Way amp and you can never go back to stock ever again! The factory head unit i admit is not bad though...
Anthony,
I just picked up my S2000 2.5 weeks ago and had my speakers replaced yesterday w/ a pair of Sony XS-V1621 and they sound MUCH better. I too thought the stock speakers were "not that bad", but had a lot of room for improvement especially for highway driving. I actually couldn't hear a thing with the top down cruising over 50mph. The Sony's were under $100 and in my opinion was a great investment.
Hope that helps!

Now that I have a really nice system in my car, I can tell you that there is no substitute for going 85 and hearing your music! Don't tell me that I'm drowning out the F20C, I'm just using the F20C to play along to the music.

If you truly like the speakers, spend the money from your "speaker upgrade trust fund" and put it towards a cross brace...just installed mine yesterday and I got two words for you...DA AMN! Talk about a handling improvement...
I think the problem lies not so much with the sound itself, it's that you can't hear the things with the top down over 55MPH. But that has more to do with placement then capability. Honda needed to mount a tweeter or midrange speaker a little higher in the door or dash so you can hear the music a little better.
I think I saw where one person actually did mount a tweeter high in the door. I expect that made a world of difference.
The other aspect is just speaker design in general. It is much better to have separate speakers (tweeter/woofer) then just one to cover the entire fequency range. You get much better response this way. [but of course everybody knows that already]
A car this nice should have had a four speaker system. Woofers in the door down low for thump and tweeters/midranges up high so you can hear them.
