Default Stolen Seats: Need Some Advice Please

For years now, I've heard about seats being taken out of our cars and for years I "patiently waited" for it to happen to me. After 4 years of ownership, I guess I felt "safe"(mainly because up until this year, I had a garage to store my car)...until I got a notice in the mail that there were a number of cars that were broken into over recent weeks. They said, "seats seem to be targeted." Of course, I called them and said, "Let me guess, were they all S2000's?" The reply was, "Yeah, most of them were. I guess you have one too?"

After making the call, I turned to my gf and said, "Well, I'm sure I'll be hit within a week." A week passes and it looks like I was wrong. Another 2 weeks passes and I'm safe right? Well, Monday morning comes around and I'm ready to face another day at work....and as I walk towards my car, I realize that my doors were open and eventually saw the cut top. I simply go up to the car, sigh and call the police. I guess I wasn't surprised, but I was unnoticeably upset.

My neighborhood has 3 S2000's and 2 STI's. The next day, as I was driving my fancy Neon (rental) to go to work <sigh>, I realize that I hadn't seen any of them for over 2 weeks. I guess I was last on the list?

Here's where I need your help. This board has been nothing but helpful over the years and it's probably one of the reasons why I continue to keep the car (there are so many unique issues associated with it that if I were alone, I would have hated trying to figure them all out myself). The insurance company (State Farm) wants to put used seats in the car, which irritated me although I realize it is "their right" to try. To make a long story short, I told them that if they put used seats in it, I would simply sell it the next day (I'm anal about that sort of thing) and move to another insurance company. I told them I would also move the other 3 policies each of my siblings have (they dont care who they go with and value my advice). An hour after I hung up, I got a call from the manager who stated that I would get everything new and instead of getting billed, they would cut me a check instead (I demanded this but they fought me on it for a bit)! I'm slightly happier now, but that's not where it ends as I still need seats.

As of now, I don't want to take the 8k allocated to buy factory seats (that price is ridiculous). I'm considering the Momo Street 2 seats and want some opinions (I'm shying away from the straight race seats as I want to recline and I would prefer the "normal" seatbelt setup and not the 4-6 point seatbelts). Also, I really need to know what other things I need to buy (rails, etc) because I have VERY little knowledge of this sort of thing and I'm trying to determine the total cost based on parts. One other thing, drilling is not something I want to do, so if you have knowledge to share, I would REALLY appreciate your expert advice guys/gals!!!!!

Oh yeah, here's the funny part. I lost a rather expensive wallet about 3 years ago, after only a month of ownership. Inside, it had about $100 and all my credit cards. Apparently, it was under my passenger seat and they never took it. I guess something good came out of it? LOL

The Ergo II's aren't that bad, but I do think the headrests are a bit wide.

SaltyDog, where are you located and how much? Also, are the 2004's the same seats? I also assume they are black?

Have you seen the seat locks that Kodokan sells? Kind of senseless waiting for your seats to be stolen when such a cheap, effective solution is available.

Yes, I saw them while doing research on this site last night. I didn't know about them previously as I haven't been on this site for some time now (work has been hectic). I will most likely purchase them along with a nice perimeter sensor w/paging alarm system. I know alarms aren't the cure for all, but it does add a lot to the peace-of-mind factor.

Can anyone tell me what parts need to be ordered for aftermarket seats (general prices would be great too) and if "regular" seatbelts work for most of these?

Thanks!

Depending on how big you are, you may be out of luck with some seats. Try befor you buy if at all possible.

I have state farm as well. So basically they want to give you an 8k check? If you take you have to spend the 8k on stock seats or can you spend it as you wish? If you can spend it get a HARDTOP and some new seats with seat locks and you will be good to go.

Keep in mind that the resale value of your car may drop considerably without the OEM seats.

With $8,000 you should be able to get some good used OEM seats AND some aftermarket seats!
