Hey Rick, check out Florida sometime. This is the land of "WTF are you doing!" driving. I must say that in the car to myself at least once a day while witnessing yet another act of stupidity.

I think every city has a few of those who insist on stopping on an entrance ramp. We've got them too. Thank god I don't have to frive a freeway to or from work.

This is illegal? I do this EVERY day. There is a gravel quarry on my street, and the average merging speed of a gravel truck with 15 tons of gravel accellerating uphill after a sharp corner is approximately 20 mph. It's not thier fault, they physically CANT go any faster, but if I merge behind them into 80 mph traffic, I am more likely to get killed then if I merge in front of them.

I don't bother with the slighshot thing, just kick it into 1st an blow by em before they are even done merging. Thier slow merge has the extra advantage that I can be fairly sure that there are no cars in front of them.

Geezz... my wife does this in the Volvo, and she is a super cautios driver. (btw. She said the other day that the Volvo is a sports car... I was sitting there biting my tongue until I drew blood!)

Please stop reprimanding these people for there aggressive driving habits. It does nothing except explain to them that you are a pussy. Those of us who do not consider the speed limit know we are doing so, and all your comments do is antagonize us to do it more. Not to worry, if you don't lecture us, every once in a while we do end up getting lectured by someone else.

Maryland was ranked 2nd worst for these "idiot" drivers. I know, I see them everyday.

I think because of the close proximity some of the MD idiots make their way to NJ. I had a guy come to a complete stop once...WTF? i don't know how he planned on getting on but i wasn't going to wait to find out...right around him a la slingshot!

My motto is "if you're not going faster than i am, get the hell out of the way!"

I didn't buy a sports car to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. Traffic tickets suck...it's all a machine to keep money running into the local government while the real criminals are out stealing your car while you're at work =)

my .03 cents...i figured there's a little more than 2 cents worth there

My wife used to do this "slingshot" in her Camry every day going up I65. I was in the car with her one time and thought it was pretty stupid to risk her life doing this given the Semi she just pulled in front of. But of course, she did this daily and even when she saw a semi coming she still had the urge to zip right out in the fast lane.

One day she zipped out between two semis and another car in the right lane ahead of her cut off the semi in front of her causing it to lock its brakes. She smashed into the back of it and the semi behind her crushed the Camry from behind. What pieces we could extract of her were buried at the funeral 3 days later.

Ok- that second paragraph was a completely fictional fabrication- but its the same thing I said to my wife about this. I didn't want to get the call to come identify the pieces. Because she was used to always speeding out into the fast lane, she always had the urge to do it- no matter how much traffic there was. She'd also race to her exit and speed to cut someone off and exit rather than getting over in advance of the exit. You delude yourself into believing its safe after you do it enough.

You should remember that no matter how good your driving skills are, there is always a surprise waiting to happen and in the unlucky event that you don't survive they can stamp "He was a good driver" on your tombstone. This would be of little consulation to your family though.

I don't know if my wife still does this or not (she said she doesn't), but I'd pay the ticket if it would get her to stop...

You might call me a hippocrit too because I've done just about every stupid/fearless thing possible on the road. But I matured and learned to judge when and where is the right place to play. Freeway traffic isn't it for me. Its dangerous enough when you are driving safely. Then again, all freeway traffic is different- but around here the freeways are crammed full and its not a good place to mess around.
