Default storing car...some questions

I'm shipping off to Korea for the next year so I won't get to drive my beloved s2k. Went through the manual but had a couple of quick questions.

It says to put the car on jack stands so the tires don't touch the ground. What exactly is this for and is it necessary?

It also says to periodically start the car. Does this mean start the engine and let it run then turn it off or physically take the car out and drive it? The thing is I'm cancelling all insurance on the car so no one can take it out. So would it be better to just leave the car as is with the battery unhooked or warm it up like once a month for 20-30 minutes and not drive it?

Finally, it says to change the oil and filter. I had a oil change about 2 weeks ago but in that time I put about 1k miles on the car (driving from texas to cali). You think I need to get another oil change or is it good as is?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Rich

Here is a thread that deals with everything you ever wanted to know about storing a car - probably way more than you wanted.

Honda is afraid that he tires will flat spot. If you don't want to do this, you should pump the tires up to around 45 psi, roll the car onto either thick carpet or styrofoam sheets under each tire. I don't like the idea of the suspension being unloaded for so long myself.

Don't worry about starting the car periodically. Take the battery out and put it in a safe place (on a piece of wood, away from any open flames). When you come back, check the oil, charge the battery, put it back in, pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it over for about 15 seconds, put the fuse back in, then start it.

A year is a long time. With 1000 miles on that oil, change it again. Just use some cheap oil. Run it till the fan comes on and shut it down for good. Change it again when you come back. Change the filter when you come back too.
