Yea I don't think eliminating the mufflers would do that much good. Get a single exhaust such as a t1r70 or just get a electric/manual cutout.

[QUOTE=jarod,Sep 19 2006, 05:34 PM] Yeah my concern is that. I'm willing to lose a bit low end torque from lack of back pressure if I can gain top end and lose additional weight.

The goal is to gain power, lower weight, keep stock look. Sound (loud) is an unfortunate addition.

I bet you didn't retune/tune the car after changing.

If you guys have ever taken a look at a/f ratio plot before and after converting to something like open header or a larger exhaust or one with less restrictions, you will see how the AFR curve is affected.
How much do you want to bet? I'll bet you.

Car was re-tuned about a week after I finished fabricating the exhaust. A/F didn't change so much in my case. Changing the VTEC crossover helped some.

Car was tuned before hand also, with a normal exhaust.

People from the ITR forum on HT who know me know about the car and exhaust, you can talk to them if you want, but have no fear, the car was tuned, especially since I didn't have to pay for dyno time

These are dyno figures or butt dyno estimates?
Dyno, I don't speak in butt dyno terms when giving numbers. If I'm being subjective I'll say it "feels" like this or that.

Just in case it was missed, this was not on my S2K, this was on my Integra. Your mileage may vary, but it will be loud either way.. and I really think you are underestimating what I mean by loud. Go remove your cat and go drive around a bit. If you can live with it, more power to ya When I finished the first version of the exhaust it was a side exit, and was the loudest exhaust any of the original NC/FL WTDR (we-todd-did-racing) group had heard. That still holds true even though most of us have built/driven race cars since that time.

[QUOTE]An invidia would just be loud with no benefits.

He's correct, it will be LOUD pretty much open header.

Check out the invidia video I made, I used a decibal (sp) meter to measure the loudness of the stock exhaust vs the invidia. For kicks I also measured open header just at idle....

The invidia exhaust at 9k rpms was just a couple decibals louder then the open header was at IDLE.

open header idle = 103db
invidia @ 9k was like 108db I think

Gives you something to think about

The benefit of an invidia is it weights significantly less then the stock system, and it is good for a couple ponies.

That doesn't seem like "good for nothing?"

An invidia also costs 600 dollars....not nearly 2000 dollars. There are exhausts that cost that much, I don't understand the rage about them though
It can't be lighter than straightpipes. How much lighter is it than the stock exhaust? A couple of ponies isn't even worth it to me. I'd like to see at least ~10hp difference. I did a search and saw a post from someone that ran straight pipes and said it wasn't louder than the invidia. Not so sure of the claim though.

I've been around Ferrari's and Porsche's with straight pipes. They're not any louder than s2ks with exhausts that I've heard so far.

The complete stock exhaust system weights ~55lbs. An invidia system weights about ~25lbs. Its a big difference. However, I have not weighed the stock system without the big ass mufflers so I'm not sure about that.

FWIW, I made a post a few months back about the HP gain I got on adding a testpipe to my invidia system. I got +14hp and +10TQ dynoed. I think the gains were so much because of the invidia exhaust system that I had coupled with the testpipe. I sure as hell felt the extra hp and tq

Is this a track only car? Otherwise do everyone in your area a favor, and forget about straight pipes. If my neighbor pulled up with straight pipes at 2am, I'd be pissed. Running without a muffler is silly, it doesn't save enough weight to make up for the noise, and you can get the similar gains from other systems that include a muffler.

As for the green side of this, both air and noise polution is a bonus.
