Stupid question on vteching?
I am very new to all this as a matter of fact my SY S2000 won't even be here until next week
I have never owned a Honda before except a motorcycle, so this is going to be a real eye opener for me. I have been reading all I can on the S2000 from all of you and have learned what to do and NOT to do but I hear all this about vteching. I know this has been asked before a hundred times and I have read through the archives but I have never read an actual explanation on what vteching is and how it works. I know it's has to do with the rpms of the engine and all but what actually happens and when? Is it anyhting like the powerband on a 2 strock CR bike? Please bare with me as I do want to learn as much as I can about this car. This is the first honda that ever really appealed to me, I thinks it's an awesome looking car and this is a great site, by what I have read you people real help each other alot and I hope I will get to meet some of you. Thanks for your help and patience with me..

There are a number of threads (search for VTEC) about this and an explanation in the FAQ section. BUT...a lot of us use the term to describe the feeling of exhilaration we get from driving our S2000's hard...
At any rate, welcome and have fun.

VTEC'ing is something that you won't be able to do until you break in the engine. Basically we are all talking about hitting that sweet upper RPM range above 6500. Take it easy on your engine for the first 600 miles, don't rev it past 6500, and check your oil frequently as some tend to use it up quickly at first.

Vtec is a wonderful thing. I'd never known much about it until I got this car and now all I can say is
. It's like a turbo kicking in at 6 grand but with no lag.

Any question regarding VTEC'ing cannot be considered stupid. besides, its like talking about sex...you wont know REALLY until you try it! (WAIT 600 miles- after breaking in the car carefully!)
