And while I agree that SUVs are a PITA, I also agree that if an S can't outbrake an SUV with a 100-yard gap, then there is a flaw with one particular part of the S2000, the nut that's holding the wheel.
In other words:

The problem has been isolated to the interface between the seat and the steering wheel.

Since he says it wasn't an issue of tailgating, I'd cut him some more slack. I had a very close call with a stopped vehicle once:

Going from the 118E to the 405S at about 10PM, after rounding the curve with a white 70's tuna boat in front of me (about 100 yards), something in the back of my head told me that there were people running on the freeway. The tuna boat slammed on the brakes and a second or two later hit something HARD.

Turns out an old pickup with a camper shell stalled out in the middle of an unlit section of the freeway in lane 3 of a 5 lane section, and the asshat drivers didn't even bother to leave the lights on or push the damn thing out of the way. I could not even see the truck until I was crawling past the wreckage at 10MPH. The people running were the truck's occupants.

And of course that's the irony of the SUV. One of the reasons people say they buy them is because they like being up high and having that great visibility. Yet SUV drivers are often the most oblivious to what is going on around them (like the three separate incidents where SUVs backed onto the hoods of members of our local Miata club).
Yup, and to continue the threadjack , many people driving SUV's love to pull all the way forward at intersections, offramps and driveways, especially when making a left turn. That way you need to either stick your car's nose into oncoming traffic or wait until they complete their turn. Yet they have perfect visibility from behind the limit lines/crosswalk.

I think of these things as tugboats. Most of their owners drive them like they have tires hanging all around their vehicle.
