suede seating surface?
now that i'm fatter (thanks to my wife's cooking
), my fit in the car is more snug than before. but i remember when i was thin(ner), i had a somewhat difficult time with the seats not supporting me laterally. would a suede seating surface have more "grab"/traction than the current leather surface?

The leather on my seats were cracking and I was thinking about may be doing this in two tone (Black bolsters/Center White).
It might work better than suede.
I think they have a shop in SoCal that does custom works.

Try alcantara.
This is synthetic ultrasuede.
I have the stuff in my Volvo and it looks great after 5.5 years (it is also easy to clean).
The stuff is also very comfortable and should hold you snugly.
Alcantara may also be used in M5s as an option and I read that it will be used in the new Aston Martin Vanquish.

I strongly advise against natural suede for seating surfaces in any form. It'll look great for about a month, then look like s**t. It's the greatest dirt collector known to man
There is artificial suede, but, then, what's the point? It's like having vinyl instead of leather.

A good quality Alcantara (of course the one made for car seats application) is very durable and it will last very long.
Rick;yes its not a natural product but cannot be compare to suede as leather to vinyl.
Alcantara actually cost more than leather and if properly used it look very good.
I had several cars with Alcantara interiors and I like it very much.
Several auto manufactures are using it for seats and even dash boards.(Aston Martin,Audi,BMW,Lamborghini,Lotus,TVR,Porsche,Volv o ,Zonda just to name a few)
