Superman and Clark Kent
I own both an S2000 and a 1994 Honda Civic. My Civic has 227,000 miles on it and the paint job looks like crap. The car is dented in on the side and the car is constantly in need of a good washing. My S2000 on the other hand is flawless and is cleaned on a weekly basis.
When I drive my Civic to work everyday I am ignored, looked down upon by SUV owners, and sometimes down right disrespected.
But when I slip into the S2000 and drop the top, I am a superstar. Joggers wave at me, girls honk at me, SUV owners smile at me, and women in the cars with their boyfriends stare.
It's funny how a car can spark various emotions in people.

Thats funny. You almost described my situation. I have a 1995 Civic with 196,000 miles on it, always filthy, dent on the side and crummy paint job. When I drive it, I'm invisible. I've only had my Spa Yellow S2k for less than a week and already I've had girls doing catcalls and stares from all kinds of drivers
I think I'd describe a similar dichotomy in terms of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Which was the evil one again, Mr. Hyde I think? Anyhow, in the mornings I drive to work fairly slowly, top's up, radio's usually off and I enjoy the hum of the engine as I cruise at 65 mph. I'm Dr. Jekyll. The way home is all together different: Top's down, radio's up, I'm doing 90+ and laughing like a crazy bastard. I'm Mr. Hyde.
With respect to your topic, I don't see anybody in the morning to be either noticed by or given waves from, it's 4:45, there's hardly another car in sight.
And I guess, on the way home I'm too self-involved to notice if anybody is noticing me. I've got road to cover and 6 gears to cover it with.
Sure, there have been waves and catcalls from the ladies, but I'd like to think they were waving at me, not my car

If such attention and admiration can be obtained from driving an S2k, what would one expect if the car is the NSX or a 911 cab?

Isnt it great that a little car like ours can elicit such a great reaction? I have kids and adults alike passing me by going "whoa" and "look at that car" "Nice Car" "Oh shit an S2000!" You would think I was driving a friggin Ferarri. Im sure Z3's and the 350Z dont get the same reactions. I definately dont mind the attention.
