Default Suppressing of catalyst

Hello

Have I thought of taking the catalyst from him(her) in order that the car gains(earns) something of power and new paragraph goes mas freely, that advice you give me?

Don't remove the catalytic converter unless you have a "Track only" supercharged or turbo S2000. The stock converter is very high flow so it won't gain any substantial horsepower on a stock car, you'll just probably backfire a lot.

Almost every Honda I've seen with a gutted or removed cat backfires upon downshifting.

Thank you, if only I gain noise I do not take it from him, in other cars I have removed it and have noticed it, but if this one takes a different catalyst, the catalyst of the civic typeR is not the same not? In the civic they recommend to remove it. Regards.

The catalytic converter iis merely for emissions. If you saw backfire, I can only assume it was because the same person who removes their cat is also modifying their fuel/timing maps...that type of person is more likely to provide a map that allows additional unburnt fuel (i.e., running rich) to enter the pipe. One item has nothing to do with the other...

Sure it does, what do you think emissions control is? The modern three-way catalytic converter is responsible for removing unburnt hydrocarbons (fuel) from the exhaust stream. The lack of a proper signal from the O2 sensor will certainly cause changes to the air/fuel ratio that the ECU sees. Both of these will cause cars without a catalytic to potentially run rich and backfire.

Obviously it is mostly there for emission purposes but it also helps to even out the flow of the exhaust through a semi-constant back pressure. When you gut or remove the cat the exhaust tends to move in surges which will make the car more prone to backfiring. The point of the post is whether or not this guy should remove his cat. If his car has no forced induction I say it's not worth the effort.

Just a thought - we share one planet - let's treat it nice, and have fun as well. I do not see where the high-flow cats are worth removing just to be selfish. That is just my opinion, and I am no nut-case tree hugger, but "test pipers" are kidding themselves - exactly what are they testing, and when will we see the results of the tests?
