Default Suspension upgrade

I am planning on changing my coilovers. This is more for handling than looks.

I have done a lot of research, but am getting more confused.

From what I have gathered, I feel that ride harshness is due more to dampener setting than spring rate. Since I plan on using this mostly on the road with a little track time, this is an issue.

I am willing to replace sway bars and add x brace at the same time to improve handling..

I spoke to Mugen regarding their coilovers and like what they have, but would like your opinions and ideas. Cost is not a major factor.

What seems to be used the most?
What are the pros and cons of different systems?
Should weight be a consideration?
What ride height would you start at?

All input is welcome. Well; you could leave out the driver training, I have heard this one.

Also, do you know of a good alignment shop close to northern CA, Stockton? Will go to Bay if needed.

Thanks for your help.

For the hard core racer that does rebuilds and changes springs to accomodate conditions:
Ohlins
Penske
Motion

For track and street use most common IMO:
Ziel
Tein RS

For track and street less common: (but kick ass if you get em $$$)
Spoon (showia)
Mugen

For more budget/ comfort
tein ra or cs
H&R
Bilstien pss9

ultra budget track
koni/ kgmm race ( limited height adj)

budget budget
Ground control coil springs

Imo if you can afford the Mugen go for it, jdm all the way. Harshness is not bad with the adjustable dampening systems.

Front swaybar is a must, rear is ok too.

x brace, Any will do, but get it for sure.

other options, Cusco under mid brace and rear brace look good

Height is up to you, but the lower the better for most tracks, not always ideal for street or auto X (damn gutters in parking lots)

I guess start about 1.5 lower all around and take it from there.
Good luck, I still have not figured out my teins yet.

Thanks for the info.

By the way, I do feel this every day. I live in the Sierras, (Gods country) which makes most off ramps benign. Went for an afternoon drive yesterday to Yosemite. Time to travel, about an hour. Love the twisties.

What about the Ohlin's? I saw a set yesterday and they looked real good.

Just one more thing though. Most are running the same spring rate front to back, however Mugan runs heavier in the back like stock? I wonder if this wouldn't bring in a little bit of under steer.

Thanks again for all of the help.

PS. Any word on a good alignment shop in northern CA?

stiffer rear would create oversteer, they are that way for functional spoilers with big downforce at higher speeds.

I have the Mugen N-0's & you can dial in understeer or oversteer by stiffening the front or rear shocks w/ a flathead screwdriver. Adjustment takes about 3mins., stiffer front than rear will induce understeer, stiffer rear than front will induce oversteer.

I might be selling mine late this summer to gather some money up for other projects that I'd like to get started. In my honest opinion the Mugen's are overkill for the street. I do prefer the lowered look & will prob. opt for a set of KG/MM DR21 Race springs if & when I sell my Mugen's.

Good luck deciding which ones you want

Oops, I meant would running Ohlins with even springs cause under-steer.

speaking of spoilers, at what speed do they start to work?
Thoughts on wings vs spoilers?
I have Honda gadget that was already on my car and feel it is worthless.

I usually drive around 70 with over 100 on rare occasions. Hit 133 once in 5th and the car felt a little light.

buddy club has got some pretty good reviews.

I have JIC Magic coil overs and love them now that they are properly adjusted.

7K front(393lbs) and 8K Rear(450lbs)

Don't forget JRZ, very similar in design to Moton.
