Synthetic Oil
Switching my 02 S to Mobil 1 10W-30. Has just over 12K, and I'm planning on taking off the road for the winter very soon. I've always used the Honda filters in the past. Is this the best option? Was figuring to change to synthetic when I store it. I usually start it about every 5 weeks or so. Would I need to change it again in the spring? There are so many myths and opinions on oil: It is hard to sort it all out. Any thoughts?
The Honda PCX filter is a very good choice for our cars. For winter storage, you are best off not starting the engine until spring-time when you're getting it out for the season again. That initial startup is the hardest on the engine, why subject your car to that numerous times when only once will do? What kind of conventional oil have you been using? I'd personally change your oil right before putting it in storage with what you've been using, then changing the oil to synthetic come next spring ater the initial startup/heat cycle.
Lester, all you ever wanted to know and more is available in "The Oil Journals" which is a sticky in the top of the "Technical" Forum (Which is at the top of the "Under the Hood" forum) Happy reading!
I think you'd be absolutely fine leaving the synthetic in for a year at least if you're doing a 4-6 month layup.
